On November 27, 2022, a webinar “A visible Vision: Transforming Road through Emerging
Innovation” happened, as all CE students can watch it, and it is a good opportunity for us to learn
more about this “knowledge-packed webinar series”. This webinar focuses on increasing the
knowledge of Engineering students in Transportation, Engineering, and Management.

For the first guest speaker, Engr. Cyzrone Angelo Galang, lead us to discuss Data Analytics
and Microsimulation in Traffic Management. Engr. Galang is a licensed Civil Engineer and
practicing as a Traffic Engineer. With his background e lead the discussion smoothly about of
course Traffic management. Although I am a bit lost in his discussion in the first half about Data
Analytics as I do not have an understanding what he is explaining after a while, I somehow
managed to get back on track when he explains the Application of Data in Transportation
Engineering, especially since he is speaking based on his experience. It’s like learning by hearing
his stories about his work. Also, I am awe in of his work for the Road Inventory Data, it is full of
work recording every data. And I remember in one of the subjects in my 2nd year, my instructor
tells us those recording data is usually done in transportation, like how many cars went to this lane,
or how my seconds are needed for a pedestrian lane based on the records of how many cars usually
go in that way as to have a smooth lane. Going back to the presentation, I am again lost, thinking
that maybe transportation is not for me, anyways all I remember from the first guest speaker
discussion is that Transportation management makes a simulation to make the best scenario to
smooth out the traffic, considering the data they have about cars, lane, pedestrian, etc. with the
help of making different scenarios in adjusting the traffic signal, or with rerouting. With this
different scenario, they can get the best solution. As engineers, they will have a presentation to a
DPWH because they will decide if they will go on with your presentation as they are the decision
maker.

It is quite knowledgeable I got there for our first speaker, although some of it is, I cannot
understand, the whole point for me is Transportation Engineering in this country must have a hard
time, considering all the heavy traffic we have on every road.
The next guest speaker is led by Engr. Sonny Galoso Andalis is a PIC instructional
specialist, and what amazed me about his introduction is that he is a Registered Foreign
Professional Engineer. I do not know but learning that someone became an engineer in another
country is amazing for someone like me who wants to become like that. Anyways, his topic for
discussion is “How to design the world’s best airport”. At the start of his discussion, he pointed
out that the Changi Airport he will be discussing is one of the projects he handles as he is the
Structural Engineer in Changi Terminal 3 and the B manager of Terminal 5. He also mentioned
that Changi Airport is considered one of the best airports for 12 years, to put it simply he is one of
the engineers behind one of the best airports in the world. The more I hear about his work, the
more I am amazed at him, to be a remarkable engineer like that is a dream for every engineering
student, that’s what I think. In this part of the webinar, the discussion went through his explanation
about Singapore where he is based, and then about the first airport in Singapore, which is Singapore
Kallang Aerodrome then it moved to Paya Lebar Airport, currently, he said that this is a military
Airport and the commercial Changi Airport.

All in all, I learned so much about how one of the airports of small countries like Singapore,
became one of the best Airports in the world. However, that is not all, since they still have ongoing
designs for the future Changi Terminal 5. I also like to point out that while explaining the designs
for the future Changi Terminal 5, which he is part of it, he said he is happy to be one of the people
behind that future. Just like the host of that webinar states, it is interesting to hear about a topic
other than construction, or transportation, which is the airports, the system terminals of airports
that are discussed. This part of the webinar made a realization for the watchers or students of how
transportation evolved at this time.

The last guest speaker for this webinar series, to tackle the “Future of Transportation”,
Engr. John Christian Colesio, a Civil Engineering Instructor at Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and
a Registered Civil Engineer majoring in Transportation Engineering, will lead the discussion. This
discussion will be a good starter for those who are thinking about what the inside of the world in
Transportation is, and those who want to take this as their specialization, especially since this is
about the future of Philippines transportation. Honestly, though, I do not see any future for our
transportation here in the Philippines, as I mentioned earlier, I always experience how bad our
transportation system is especially now that there is no plan for how to improve this problem since
there is a crisis in our government. Engr. Colesio, started to ask if there is someone in the webinar
who is expecting a future for our transportation, and I am not one of those, however, it intrigued
me to listen carefully when he said there is a certain future. He mentioned how hard to commute
in the Pandemic days, and how it was like a survival quest just to get on public transportation.
Going on his discussion, he mentioned a lot of improvements from the past until our time, he also
added about the future of the transportation system, one of that is the cable cars, which is like one
of the other ways of transportation. He also mentioned the Railway Transportation Development
for 2030. While he explains the plan, I thought of the railway construction near Dalandanan if I
am remembering right, I think that was for connecting Valenzuela and Bulacan, I am not sure, but
I guess there will be really a plan for the one more way of Transportation.

Listening to Engr. Colesio, the discussion of the Metro Manila Railways for 20 is like,
there is really a future for Transportation, and it will start with the Railway Transit Development.
After the discussion, I am too now hoping for a bright future for our country’s transportation
system and hoping that it will be as good as the other countries.
