ATOMIC MODEL

TOP 1

QUANTUM MODEL
Erwin Schrodinger developed the quantum mechanical
model of an atom in which electrons did not revolve
around the nucleus in circular orbits, but rather as
electron clouds in an atomic orbital, a region inside the
atom where the probability of finding an electron is
greatest. These atomic models do not tell us where an
electron is, but rather where it could be.
TOP 2

SOLID SPHERE MODEL

John Dalton believed that the world was made of atoms,
which he defined as tiny, indestructible solid spheres
that were unique to each element. Different elements'
atoms combine to form various compounds and are
arranged during chemical reactions.

Because each element is made up of atoms, which are

extremely small, indivisible particles, this was my top 2.
TOP 3

PLUM PUDDING MODEL

JJ Thompson defined an atom as a particle made up of a
positively charged mass (the pudding) and tiny negative
charges embedded in it (like plum)

It is ranked third because it cannot explain the position

of an atom's nucleus or the scattering of alpha particles.
TOP 4

ATOMISM
According to Democritus. are tiny indestructible particles
known as "latamos," which means "uncuttable" he
believed that the properties of materials depended on
the type of atomos they were composed of, such as
metals composed of hard atoms

NUCLEAR MODEL
Ernest Rutherford proposed that electrons moved
around the nucleus in fixed orbits or shells using the
concept of quantized energy. A shell closer to the
nucleus has less energy than one farther away, but
Heisenberg's uncertainty principle states that it is
impossible to know the exact position and trajectory of
electrons.

PLANETARY MODEL
In this model, electrons travel in distinct circular orbits,
or shells, around an atom's nucleus. The model is also
known as an atom's planetary model. The planetary
model of the atom failed to explain why individual atoms
produce discrete line spectra, so it is ranked sixth. In
fact, Rutherford's model predicts that each individual
atom should produce a continuous line spectrum. His
model's second flaw was that electrons orbited the
nucleus in a circular fashion.
