Bio psychology- it’s a branch of psychology which focuses on how the brain, neurons, nervous
system influences our feelings, thoughts and behaviours. With the help of study of bio psych, we
understand basic structure of brain and which part of brain controls which behaviour. It is related
with other disciplines of psych such as exp psych and with other disciplines such as bio, physiology,
cog psych, neuro sciences. People who work in the field of bio psych study how injuries in any part of
brain will impact human behaviour. Bio psych is aka behavioural neurosciences and physiological
psychology because this field deals with physiology of human brain.

Counselling psych- Its largely used in employment. It focuses on facilitating personal and
interpersonal functioning across the lifespan. It is centred on treating clients experiencing mental
distress and a wide variety of psych symptoms. We treat the persons suffering from different types
of psych problems. It can improve interpersonal functioning throughout the lifespan by improving
social and emotional heath as well as addressing the concerns about health, family environment,
working conditions, career, marriage etc.

Developmental psychology- it is the branch off psych which focuses on how people grow and change
throughout their lifespan. To und and exp how people change- physical, mental, emotional changes,
social dev, perceptual dev, lang dev, cultural dev, intellectual dev. In dev psych we also have to study
in ehich age people dev these things. Dev of child from infants, dev of adult,child, adolesecnece, old
age and also study dev delays in growth of human being as we know that child has started walking at
3 months. It helps us understand normal devs acc to age. Dev psych apply their research to

Educational psych- It’s a branch of psych concerned with school, teaching psych, educational issues
and concerns of students. Edu psych studies how students learn and work directly with their peer
groups, parents, teachers, administrators to improve overall outcome of students. In education
psych we all study some imp topics such as learning disability, intellectual disability, gifted child.
According to this we have to make a curriculum for diff types of children.

Forensic psychology- It deals with the issues related to psych and law. Work in this field requires
application of psych principles to legal issues. It involves the study of criminal behaviour, treatment
or working directly in the court system. For psych uses psych sciences to support judicial system to
understand the behaviour of criminals. Forensic psychologists perform diff activities such as perf
testimony in court cases, assessing children in suspected child abuse cases, preparing children to
give testimony and evaluating the mental competence of criminal suspects. They work with press,
help judiciary, and helps to find out if the person who has committed the crime is mentally stable or
not. People working as forensic psychologist could be clinical psychologist, counsellor, child
psychologist, school psychologist, neuropsychologist.

Cross cultural psychology- it’s a branch of psych that studies how cultural factors influence human
behaviours. How cultural affects human behaviour. Int ass of cross cul society was established in
1972. This branch of psych came after that. Every cul has diff norms and to be a part of it you have to
follow it. child rearing practices is diff in diff regions. How you behave in particular situations is also
impacted by culture.

Exp psych- branch of psych that utilizes the scientific methods to research and find out human
behaviors. We have to use diff techniques to find out diff development of brain. Use scientific
methods/techniques to study human beh in particular environments. Study the structure of brain in
scientific way to study if there is any damage or chemical change and if it causes change in human
beh. It started in 1879 when wundt established the 1 st exp lab.

Organizational psychology- applies psych principles to research on workplace issues such as

productivity and human beh. It deals with improving prod or eff in workplace as whereas managing
well being of employee.
