1.1.1 CT Basic PG
It includes both common information as well as facts independent of CT model or version that are necessary
for planning CT systems.

The basic requirements for planning CT systems may be identical for some systems independent of the version
model.

Therefore, in this CT System PG you find links to the CT Basic PG.

1.1.2 CT Options PG
There are CT options available and used by more than one CT system regardless of the CT model or version.

This CT Options PG includes only the required planning information for the CT options that are used by more
than one CT system.

The content of this CT Options PG is limited to the technically required information to plan the on-site
preparation of the corresponding option only.

2.5.3 Floor and building vibrations

2.5.3.1 General
External vibrations or shocks transmitted by the walls or the floor of the building may affect the gantry and
degrade image quality. Therefore the gantry and the patient table must be installed in an environment free
of vibrations
Sources that produce vibrations include:

• Railroad routes

• Subways

• Roads

• Road work and construction sites

• Hospital power plants

• Mines, open-cast mines, quarries (explosions)

• Ferry moorings

• Any other sources of striking vibrations

The CT system is not sensitive to common vibrations. If the CT is away from vibrational sources, or the CT is
replacing a CT system that to date has not shown image quality problems due to vibrations, it is usually not
necessary to execute vibrational measurements.

If there are any doubts, the following thresholds have to be verified by measurement:

In the 3 spatial directions, acceleration in vibrations at the mounting points of the computed tomography
system (gantry and Patient Handling System PHS) must not exceed the thresholds as described in the following
sections.

2.5.3.2 Continuous vibrations

Fig. 42: Permissible acceleration for continuous vibration

NOTES:

• The threshold is defined as acceleration rms value (root mean square) in m/s2 of an FFT spectrum
derived with a frequency resolution of 1 Hz and using a Hanning window.

• The vibrations have to be measured with a sampling rate of 1000 Hz using an anti-aliasing-filter with
a limit frequency of 250 Hz.

• The threshold is valid for vibrations at the installation location with a CT in position.

• Measurements are usually taken at the site before the installation of the CT. Changes in the
eigenfrequency of the slab caused by the additional mass of the CT have to be considered when
comparing the frequency spectrum with the threshold.

2.5.3.3 Transient vibrations (shocks)

Any transient vibration has to be less than 0.5 m/s2 peak-to-peak in the time domain.

• The vibrations have to be measured with a sampling rate of 1000 Hz.

to the chapter “Installation preparation” in the CT Basic PG, print number CT00-000.891.04

3.5.4 Residual current protective device (RCD)

Function: Switches off power in the event of residual currents.

• Installation of an RCD, if required by country-specific guidelines, or if it is not possible to maintain

the loop impedance.

• In Germany, an RCD is required according to VDE 0100-710.

• Must be provided on-site by the customer.

• It is not permitted to install an RCD Type B after an RCD Type A.

In Germany, it is a requirement according to the German regulation DIN VDE 0100- 0530 not to install
an RCD Type B after an RCD Type A.

Refer to the following block diagram:

Fig. 60: Installation of RCD types A and B

The use of RCD type B only is permitted for CTs.

3.5.5 ON/OFF switch

Install an on-site ON/OFF switch to disconnect the entire CT system from line power.

For details, refer to the CT Basic PG, print number CT00-000.891.04.

3.5.6 Emergency power-off switch (EPO & REPO)

Install an on-site 2-channel EPO (emergency power-off) switch to enable immediate on-demand emergency
disconnection of the CT system from line voltage, and simultaneous disconnection of the internal UPS in the
gantry, via the REPO (remote emergency power-off) contact.

For details, refer to the CT Basic PG, print number CT00–000.891.04.

Regulatory requirements specify that there must be one STOP or EPO switch located within 5000 mm of any
point in the room.

Therefore, if the scan room is so large so that it cannot be completely covered by a circle with a radius of 5000
mm and 1) ( Page 77, Fig. 61) (1) as the center point, then an additional EPO switch ( Page 77, Fig. 61)
(2) must be installed.

3.5.7 Wall switch (ON/OFF push button)

To save energy and to simplify shutting down of the system, there is the possibility to shut down (OFF button)
and switch on (ON button) the system by one push button each.

These buttons are preferably installed so that they are easily accessible on a wall in the operating room.

Pushing the "OFF button" will initiate a system shutdown, taking into account the time, e.g. for cooling down
the gantry. When all processes in the system have finished, the system will open the on-site main conductor.

The ON/OFF push buttons must be provided on-site by the customer and usually consist of two separate
push buttons:

1. ON button: “1 x closer”,

2. OFF button: “1 x opener”

Recommendation: Alternatively, both push buttons can be accommodated in one common housing as a
switching combination incl. a power ON indicator.

In conjunction with the customer, the project manager determines the installation location of the ON/OFF
push button(s). We recommend installing the ON/OFF push button on a wall according the customer's room
choice.

3.7 Siemens Remote Services (SRS)

In order to pursue a consistent Siemens Healthcare service strategy, all CT systems must have working SRS
connections at the time of handover to the customer.

Siemens EPS (Enhanced Productivity Services) and RUH (Remote Update Handling) are part of the Siemens
Med Strategy and require a mandatory broadband VPN connection.

Consider line types such as ISDN or analog as fallback methods only.

All planning-related information for SRS must be taken from the “SRS Planning Guide”, print number
TDIT-000.891.01., established for this purpose.

6 Transport and storage conditions

6 Transport and storage conditions

6.1 Climatic conditions for transport and storage

6.1.1 Standard climatic conditions

The climatic requirements for storing the CT system are identical to the climatic requirements for
transportation.

1. The data for transporting and storing the CT system components are applicable only if the system is
shipped free of damage in the transport packaging provided by the manufacturer.

2. All components have to be stored in the respective transport packaging provided by the manufacturer.

3. Use equivalent packaging for intermediate storage if the original packaging provided by the manufacturer
is no longer available.

Designation Range

Air temperature -20˚C to +50˚C

Relative humidity 5% to 95%

Absolute humidity Maximum 30 g/m3

(no condensation at any time)

Temperature gradient 6 K/h

Barometric pressure 700 hPa to 1060 hPa

Max. storage time 2 months

Tab. 47: Climatic conditions for transport and storage

After moving the CT system from a cold environment into a warm room, make sure that the entire CT system
is dry before switching it on.

6.1.2 Intermediate storage

The climatic requirements also have to be considered for intermediate storage. Electronic components and
especially the detector modules are sensitive to temperature and humidity, with high humidity being most
critical.

If the CT system has been unpacked and installed in a room without climate control, it must be repacked and
sealed against humidity.

Without temperature and humidity control, the high-value components may be damaged during storage.
