MUSIC IS AN ESCAPE FROM REALITY

Music is the art of arranging sounds in time to produce a composition through the
elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.
It is one of the cultural universal aspects of all human societies. Music is a
language of emotion in that it can represent different feelings and barge into the
soul with no boundaries or limitations. People are always challenged by the fact
that “no one understands them” or know how they “really feel”, so they turn to
music. Music also has the capacity to imitate emotions.
Music has the ability to evoke powerful emotional responses such as chills and
thrills in listeners. Positive emotions dominate musical experiences. Pleasurable
music may lead to the release of neurotransmitters associated with reward, such
as dopamine. Listening to music is an easy way to alter mood or relieve stress.
Music makes me feel relieved, calm, happy, sad, motivated. Music is effective for
relaxation and stress management. Music may help people to identify and express
the feelings associated with their stress. In a music therapy session, the client can
express these emotions, providing an important cathartic release.
Imagine you’re in your room on a rainy day. Its 7pm and you’re on your bed and
you overhear your parents arguing whether they should divorce or not. You put
on your headphones, shut your eyes and listen to your favourite song,
weightless by Marconi Union. You feel calm, relaxed and if you’re in a peaceful
void, where no one and nothing can disturb you. You fall asleep.
Music has a way of seeping into every inch of you, dredging up lost memories and
molding your emotions. There is a song that hits every emotion on key and allows
melodies to eclipse our thoughts, even if it's only momentary. Music is something
that we not only hear, it's something we feel.
