Position Title : CAD Technician


Program : Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments (RISE)
Reporting to : Day to day reporting to the Design Manager (Makassar); overseen by the RISE Build
Team Leader (Makassar), International Project Manager and International
Construction Manager in Melbourne
Duty Station : Makassar, Indonesia
Duration : 3 months, extendable based on performance

Background:
Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments (RISE) is a design-research program, which
aims to demonstrate that a Water Sensitive Cities (WSC) approach to water and sanitation
management can improve human and ecological health in informal settlements. The program is
operating in 24 informal settlements across Makassar, Indonesia and Suva, Fiji.

The WSC interventions of the RISE project operate on varying scales – household, neighborhood, and
precinct. They include built elements, such as sanitation and drainage improvements, rainwater
harvesting facilities and green infrastructure (wetlands). The success of the RISE interventions will be
measured by the health and well-being of residents – particularly children under five years of age –
and the ecological diversity of the surrounding environment.

The Role
The RISE program is currently seeking a CAD Technician to join our Build team in Makassar supporting
the revision and update of existing detailed design drawings for construction in the 5 sites. As part of
the team she/he will be working within a diverse team of construction specialists, engineers,
architects, researchers and community fieldworkers who are based in both Makassar and
Melbourne.

Key responsibilities:
● Revise and update detailed design drawings with AutoCAD using x-refs method during
construction as directed by the Makassar Build team;
● Prepare new drawing sheets as required;
● Update the existing drawing to ensure consistency and readability of drawings for
construction;
● Detailing the existing drawing documents for construction;
● Perform routine to moderately difficult drafting and design assignments;
● Support with construction costing and volume calculation;
● Support with reporting and project documentation;
● Support with site supervision and design implementation on construction site;
● Coordination with third parties including surveyors, suppliers, external design consultants,
program staff and partners.

Required technical skills and competencies:


● Proven ability to work independently on assigned tasks;
● Effective communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia (ability to communicate in English will be
highly regarded);
● Proficient in AutoCAD and familiar with various drafting and design related software
including bluebeam and other document marking software;
● Understanding of administration processes and construction materials;
● Understanding of the challenges of retrofitting infrastructure into informal settlements;
● Able to work collaboratively and constructively in teams;
● Able to liaise and work effectively with international staff;
● Use of excel spreadsheet for costing and planning activities;
● Excellent communication skills.

Required qualifications and experience:


● Education Requirements: Architectural/engineering design degree OR visual communication
design degree OR qualifying vocational high school degree with GIS or CAD certification
● At least three years of experience with:
o Relevant professional work experience in AutoCAD, ideally experience involving
wastewater and drainage documentation;
o Designing and managing construction projects;
o Urban water, drainage, sanitation infrastructure design and systems;
o Familiarity with community-based development.
