In every middle school across the country the issue of students being bullied and creating

cliques arises. Through research, we see the negative impact of bullying and cliques on students'

education and experience in school. We often found that cliques were very relevant in young

adolescents and while these groups can be associated with bullying this is not always the case. It

is important that we educate teachers, family members, and community members on the

differences and positive and negative effects of cliques because while it is a topic that is

discussed often, many do not know how to deal with it in and out of schools. Through our Social

Phenomena Project we look to explore these topics and the effect they have on our middle school

students. We chose this topic as we, student teachers, have seen bullying and cliques evident in

most every school we have observed. We believe this is an important topic to educate others

about so we can unite and create a positive environment for the young adolescents in our

schools.
