INTRODUCTION
STATEMENT OF
PURPOSE
T his is a supplement to celebrate Pride and provide
material for players to include LGBTQ+ elements in their
enjoyment of Scion Second Edition. It can easily be converted
to Scion First Edition, but the mechanical aspects of this work
are entirely focused on Second Edition. Scion: Origins and
Scion: Hero for Second Edition are needed to get the most
out of this supplement and use it in your game. Our diverse
team was made up of members across the sexuality and gender
spectrum and we are proud of the deep research they have
conducted, the love they have poured in, and the hard work
that it took to put this all together. This was meant to be larger
and full of art and meant to be the gayest celebration possible
but the world we live in now does not allow that and we had
many of our contributors drop out due to the stresses of even
just basic living nowadays. In fact, it should say something
that very little of this Statement of Purpose had to be changed
for Pride 2021. A pandemic, racial injustice, anti-LGBTQ+
oppression, and more surround us like a thick and unbreathable
fog and we can only hope that the days will be brighter for all
of us after all this. We are all going through difficult times and
the assaults on our liberties to be our truest selves continue
day by day. Not only is this in celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride,
but we also unequivocally state that Black Lives Matter and
will be donating most of our royalties to charities specifically
aiding Black Queer causes. We also fully encourage DTRPG
and OPP to donate their own proceeds from this work or a
lump sum of their choosing to similar charities during this
time to join us in solidarity with the community. They did
not do so last year, but we hope they will this year. Scion is
a versatile, open-minded, and global game that respects and
loves the religions and cultures it works with. This project
not only aims to expand this scope to include our LGBTQ+
gaming family but also hopes to inspire Queer creators to
continue to add to Scion’s rich and constantly developing

Scions’ identities may be complex, Hyacinthus’ role in their
lives is simple: He wants only the best for them, and he is
always ready to help whenever they are ready to receive it.
Scions of Hyacinthus are often possessed of an otherworldly
patience. They are stalwart in the face of emotional turmoil,
and their love for others is often unconditional, though it
will not abide toxicity. His Scions may also find themselves
favored in small ways by Apollo, whose love for Hyacinthus
has changed over the centuries, yet remains passionate,
proud, and joyful.

LAN CAIHE (SHEN)
Aliases: Foot-Stomping Immortal, Lam Choi Ho, Lan
Ts’ai-Ho, Red-Footed Great Genius, Yang Su
Very little is known of Lan Caihe’s life before joining
the rank of the Eight Immortals and it seems they prefer the
ambiguity. They could’ve been a Tang Dynasty homeless
street musician performing traditional stomping music on
their path to immortality. Other stories say they were an
accomplished florist and gardener beloved for their care of
the flowers. Even their gender is as utterly ambiguous as
how they even became an immortal in the first place and,
when asked, Lan Caihe is known to just laugh and hand the
questioner a beautiful flower before walking away singing
about the vagaries of life. If anything can be said about
Lan Caihe, it’s that they’ve always valued their freedom
and that, to them, being different from everyone else is the
greatest blessing of all.
This Foot-Stomping Immortal, known for their youthful
looks and vigor, prefers feminine-oriented clothing (but
not always), is always strangely missing or half-wearing a
shoe, carries multiple musical instruments and all kinds of
flowers, and speaks in a beautiful deep soprano voice. He
Xiangu, the only woman among the Eight Immortals, has
made it clear that Lan Caihe is not a woman, but neither
are they a man, and asking Lan Caihe directly leads to even
more confusion. They’re known to accept any pronouns
directed their away and even partake in advocacy for

those questioning their assigned genders, sponsoring and
blessing both queer-friendly counseling groups and wild
underground drunken soirees benefitting the transgender
community. Lan Caihe is known for their warmth, vivacity,
and care for those less fortunate and the other immortals are
prone to mention the time they were all visiting a sea god
and Lan Caihe built a raft so that their mortal servant could
join them. When not partying or aiding mortals, Lan Caihe
can be found philosophizing through verse and prose and
sometimes much to the annoyance of the other immortals.
The Red-Footed Great Genius prefers Scions who
value their freedom and uniqueness, who bring something
new and different to the mix and are unapologetic about it.
They range wildly when it comes to what they do in life and
live lives worthy of a Lan Caihe ballad. Their Scions have
been anarchist renegade gardeners, award-winning ballroom
drag queens, queer underground street boxers, flamboyant
androgynous cocktail bartenders, founders of highly
effective mutual aid organizations, and strangely-beautiful
gender-ambiguous innovators of new and experimental
musical genres. What Lan Caihe wants is Scions who live as
their natures dictate, aligned to the Dao, and free in as many
ways as possible.

PAN (THEOI)
Aliases: Agreus, Fauna, Faunus, Nomios
There are two kinds of infamous parties hosted by
the Theoi: the revelries of Dionysus and the debauches
of Pan. A talented musician, inveterate lecher, and truly
prodigious lover, Pan is all about having a good time, no
matter who that good time is with. Admittedly, sometimes
he goes too far and over-reacts, whether by cutting down a
patch of rushes to find a single, transformed nymph or by
being awoken from a nap with a blood-curdling shout that
induces terror, but he’s one of those people you just can’t
help but enjoy being around. The people of Arcadia believed
he was born as a mature child and worshipped him in the
caves and grottos, in the woods and fields, and credited him
with inventing the panpipes as a result of the incident with
the nymph and seducing Selene, the moon goddess, with
his wiles and trickery. The Theoi, although they do enjoy
having him around, are forever baffled by his attitude to
life. They question that why, with his goat-like features and
unattractive face, he is as lecherous and lustful as he is. His
only response is to laugh, make a suggestive gesture, and
head off in pursuit of his latest conquest.
The modern World has not really changed Pan but
rather has made him more aware of the harm he has caused
in the past. He will still gladly, and with great gusto, chase
after anyone who catches his eye, regardless of gender
identity, but he will stop if they say no and wish them
well. Frequently, many of those who turn him down find
themselves conceiving extremely healthy children or having
a bumper crop that year. In an effort to redeem himself, in his
own eyes, his Incarnations frequently run, or support, sexual
assault support groups and outreach programs, or free sexual
health clinics where all are welcome, and no questions are
asked. As urbanisation spreads, he is becoming more and
more concerned with the decline of the environment and
the worsening effects of climate change. He still parties like
there’s no tomorrow, but there is an edge to his behaviour
now: a desperation for distraction that wasn’t there before.
He knows a time is coming when he will have to take a stand,
when hedonism won’t be enough and when he will have to
focus on the problem seriously. Before then, however, he
is content to incarnate as agriculture researchers, livestock
breeders, and mysteriously elusive yet effective veterinary
surgeons. He still, on occasion, incarnates as a musician,
a producer, or a hermit, but as the World changes around
him, so too do his focuses. Regardless of his Incarnation,
Pan always possesses a lustrous beard, thick curly hair, and
bears a goat horn motif somewhere on his clothing. On rare
occasions, it amuses him to incarnate in his classical form,
goat legs and all, but most often he makes do with a typical
human body in an effort to blend in.
It should come as no surprise to learn that almost all of
Pan’s Scions are born. The few he chooses are those who
have caught his eye in some way; usually this means people
who turn him down or are the kind of person he believes
will “benefit” from the added responsibility of being a
Scion. On occasion, he will create a Scion from a goat in an
effort to uplift his favoured animals, but historically these
Scions have been unable to reconcile their new awareness
of the world and their new place in it with their sense of self
and, thus, were short-lived. All his Scions possess a great
sexual appetite, many identify as bisexual or pansexual
and no small number of them work in the fields of sexual

health or agriculture. Those of his Scions who are blessed
with musical talent often use it as a hobby, rather than
the focus of their lives, and enjoy the notoriety and fame
it brings them. Pan’s approach to parenting is chaotic and
best described as “infrequent”. He will be absent for many
years, visit in a whirlwind of music, sex, and good feelings
and then disappear again, only to return unannounced at the
worst possible moment.

SHAI, DEITY OF DESTINY
(NETJER)
Aliases: Psais, Sai, Shait, Shay
Shai walks behind us all as our constant companion.
They are with us from the moment of our birth to our death
and beyond. Shai is an expression of Fate made manifest,
keeper of the line that cuts through time itself and every
second of our life that is spent with them. When you are a
child, freshly out of the womb, who is beside you? Ideally
your parents, the physician who helped your birth to happen,
and maybe some witnesses to the miracle of birth. However,
the presence of the genderfluid deity Shai in the moment
of birth cannot be overstated. They are with us from our
very first breath, for their function among the myriad
deities of the Netjer involves bringing great fortune or great
misfortune to humans. Shai forms something of a quad with
Meskhenet, another deity of destiny, Renenutet, the goddess
who gives a newborn their truest name, and Shepset, one of
the hippopotamus goddesses of childbirth.
Shai presents however destiny dictates for any particular
moment but tends to prefer to be of an ambiguous gender
with melanated skin though a snake or their strange Shai
Animal wouldn’t be rare to see either. stands with the soul
of the deceased as their heart is weighed on the balance of
Ma’at. They possess the sacred duty of giving the Judges of
the Dead an unbiased account of the deeds of the departed,
both good and evil. In the modern World, Shai enjoys
studying philosophy either at a college class, in a monastery
run by an friend from another Pantheon, or even in a bar.
They have read many books on moral relativism and the
philosophy of time and are even planning to write some of
their own very soon in an attempt to understand their position
and help others understand theirs. They also have a distinct
passion for photography which fits with their responsibility
for recording every moment of life. Sometimes, if they’re
feeling particularly proud of their photographs, they’ll
display them in galleries under pseudonyms for others to
enjoy and be confused by as they see candid photographs of
themselves that they don’t remember authorizing.
Today Shai recognizes those who are genderfluid and
transcend traditional ideas of gender as their people. Shai
informs their Scions that they must live just, observant, and
truthful lives so that their divine patron can give them a
good testimony. Their Scions are activists, always ready to
help others make the right moral choices not only because
it is the right thing to do, but because that will make them
look better on Shai’s eyes and it was going to be their path
anyways. Others of them like to portray the small moments
of life through the creative arts, capturing the vivacity of
existence before the judgement of Du’at arrives.

CHAPTER TWO
DRAG IN SCION
 “I’m like the highest form of gay:
I’m a drag queen.”

Gender is a construct and a performance – and what
better way to push the boundaries of gender norms than
with the art of drag. Drag is ancient, liminal, and inherently
political. Throughout history, the art of drag has been
used to subvert and question traditional power structures,
exaggerate and satirize social norms, and as a form of self-
expression. There is power in drag – and a Scion who can
understand and embrace that power can shape worlds.
When a Scion performs drag, they have the power to
life up the voices of the voiceless and amplify the message
of those left out of the mainstream narrative. Drag is
seldom subtle. It is, on the surface, an art often associated
with bawdy humor, camp, and exaggerated artifice. It is also
punk. A performer calls attention to how their culture bars
genuine self-expression and enforces toxic gender norms.
With the weight of providence behind their actions, Scion
drag artists attack these authoritarian attitudes.
Revolution is not the only message in drag: it is also
deeply personal. A drag persona is more than a costume; it
is a reflection and amplification of the performer’s nature.
Drag personas can be wielded as a shield of protection,
a mask a Scion uses to gain confidence, or a safe space
for someone questioning their gender to explore new
possibilities. Scions interested in exploring the art of drag
should consider what their drag persona means to them,
what kind of drag performer they would like to be, and what
message they want their audience to leave with at the end of
a performance — and how they can use their drag to shape
their Legend.
Drag comes in many different forms, but one of the
common roles of a drag performer is the host. From hosting
an evening at a bar to rallying a crowd during a protest, drag
performers are often called upon to weave a narrative to
enthrall, empower, and excite an audience. Thanks to their
godly gifts, Scions can perform this role to a supernatural
degree.
Drag gives Scions and performers the power to make
their own Fates. Fatebindings reflect the drag character that
a Scion creates: the audience, including Fate, responds to the
narrative that the Scion is attempting to craft. Performing
as a drag persona is like wearing a Mantle, and Scion drag
artists recognize the similarity as they grow in Legend.
DIVINE DRAG PARENT
(GUIDE •••••)
This Birthright represents a sorcerous, denizen, or Scion
drag parent. Successful drag artists are talented performers

that understand the social norms and how to transgress them
in a thought-provoking way.
The LGBTQIA+ community understands the
importance of listening to and learning from its elders.
Veteran drag artists have successfully overcome the unique
obstacles of being queer, of rebuking gender norms, of
challenging authority simply by existing — and usually
of belonging to another marginalized ethnic group. While
supernatural drag artists have distinct privileges that
keep them safe, they may have to face the consequences
of challenging divinely-sanctioned cultural norms and
boundaries. The Clear Light Church (Titanomachy, p.124)
suborns the reactionary religious movement in the United
States and refers to drag as an act of “sexual deviance” in
its recruitment material and fundraising literature. Rayven
Silverhair (Titanomachy, p.131) Scion of Nyx, rallies her
followers with gender essentialist dogma masquerading
as progressive rhetoric. Even some cisgender supernatural
members of the LGBTQ community are so inured to the
gender binary that they will fight to protect it. A divine drag
parent is a Scion’s guide to navigating the world as a drag
performer and as a supernatural creature. More importantly,
a drag parent is a Scion’s guide to expressing an exaggerated
— but sincere — version of themselves.
Asset Skills: Culture, Persuasion
Guide Stunt (1-3): Once per scene, if the Scion
begins performing, they may dictate the atmosphere
(Scion: Origin, p.78) of the scene. The atmosphere rating is
equal to the number of successes spent and persists until a
participant in the scene successfully overcomes the penalty
to perform an action that ruins the vibe.
Every Night is a Riot: Once per chapter the Scion
can incite a riot or spark a revolution. By imbuing a point
of Legend, the Scion takes a stand against authority and
all characters in the scene who belong to a marginalized
or oppressed community rally behind the Scion. All
Storyguide characters who follow the Scion have a positive
Attitude of 3 towards the Scion and add 1 Armor. There is
no limit to how many characters could be affected, and the
Scion’s player could treat them as a set of Followers with
the following stats instead.

generally bestow them when one of their Scions requires
a little extra help with interpersonal relationships or when
they need to make a good impression in the course of their
duties.

Enhancement: +3 Pilot, +2 Subterfuge
Knack: This vehicle imposes a Rank 2 Complication
on any other vehicle attempting to attack or pursue it.
Additionally, it ignores any conditions of terrain which
might be considered a Hazard.
Knack: When a Scion wishes to travel incognito,
they may imbue the chariot with 1 Legend and gain a +3
Enhancement to avoid detection.
Flaw: Each time the Scion uses Hyacinthus’ swan
chariot, the Storyguide adds a point of Tension to the

Flaw (••••): Each time the Mirror is used, it takes
an influence action against the character using their own
traits to urge them to work towards improving the Attitude
of a character, chosen by the SG, that they have recently
interacted with. If the character succumbs to the urge, they
earn a point of Momentum.
Made from sheets of ice taken from the pond Narcissus
died next to and magically preserved, these gold-backed
mirrors are bright, garish, and extremely sought after.
Whilst they cannot change a person physically, they
can make them more desirable. Unfortunately, some of
Narcissus’ legend lives on within the ice itself and compels
the owner of the relic to bask in the love of those around
them at the cost of more pragmatic actions. Most users

Half-nymph and grandfather to Orpheus, Thamyris was
the first mortal to love another man—Hyacinth, a beautiful
Spartan prince. When Hyacinth caught Apollo’s divine
attention, however, the god used Thamyris’ legendary
musical talents against him, reporting to the Muses that
Thamyris had boasted about his abilities surpassing theirs.
His subsequent defeat stripped him of both his sight and
his skills, the latter of which were bound to his favored
instrument: his cithara.
However, Thamyris is more than just a cautionary
tale—as long as he has access to this musical implement,
Scions can take advantage of his hard-won wisdom and
charms.

Enhancement to their chosen Skill equal to their number

Hi’iaka, beloved by worshipper and foe alike, is
the patron of the islands of Hawai’i, the creator of the
hula, a lover of chants, a powerful sorceress, vanquisher
of monsters, and wildly bisexual. She’s been noted for
her many aikane (the Hawai’ian term for same-gender
relationships) and loves advising and protecting her fellow
bisexuals. Pretty women, however, will sometimes find
that she wants to do a little bit more than just advising
but Hi’iaka, noted for her amazing beauty, tends to not be
turned down often. She loves dancing and teaching others
to dance and can be found tearing up the club on a Saturday
unless she’s preparing a powerful ritual or lecturing at a
bookstore.
Guide Stunt (1-3 successes): When attempting to use
their Culture (Dance) Skill to impress others, a Scion can
decide to reroll if the roll was not to their liking. The Scion,
however, must keep the results of the second roll and lose
the results of the first roll.
