Working shows good understanding of static electricity.

Static electricity
1.(a) Fig. 1.1 shows a balloon hanging from an insulating thread.

A. The balloon gains electrons

B. The balloon loses electrons
C. The balloon gains protons
D. The balloon loses protons
(ii) The student brings a charged rod close
to the balloon as shown in Fig. 1.2.
State the type of charge on the rod.
Explain your answer.
The rod and the balloon will repel
each other.

(b) Electrical charges can move easily

through some materials.
Draw a circle around each material that
charges can move through easily.

copper plastic rubber

silver wood
2. (a) the
cotton threads
are not
vertivle
because the
ballons are
reppelling
eachother.

(b)(ii) the balloon became negtivley charged because it took the electron of the cloth and since balloom
is rubber the negative charges from cloth went to the balloon and the cloth turned postivly charged
during the process of rubbing.
The electrons from the balloon transfer to the metal cabinet.

The balloon is attracted to the wall as the wall has both charges so when we bring the negatively
charged balloon towards the wall the positive charge in the wall will be attracted to the balloon causing
it to stick.
