CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 Identification of Client/ Need/ RelevantContemporary issue

The term "technology" is used often throughout the world, particularly in the
domains of education, product manufacture, transportation, communication, and
health. A key component of the economy and a weapon for the government, the
transportation industry has always been a vital component of the economy.
Although there are many methods to get around the world, motorcycles are the
craziest kind of transportation for both the young generation and the entire
planet. The peculiar relationship that a motorcycle rider has with their
motorcycles makes motorcycle safety connected to several characteristics of the
vehicle, such as equipment model, vehicle design, and operator competence,
particularly important.

1.2Identification of Problem
India, the world's second-most populous nation, has a sizable young population.
Today's youth like riding bikes, and due to fashion, they often choose not to
wear helmets. Due to them, the number of fatal bike accidents is rising daily.
Head injuries are a major cause of fatalities and can be avoided by using a
helmet. More incidents of drunk driving are occurring, which leads to accidents
and death by negligence when an accident happens. The usage of a smart
helmet, a sort of protective headgear, increases the rider's level of safety when
operating a motorcycle. This helmet's primary function is to keep the rider safe.
Advanced features like fall detection, accident identification, location
monitoring, giving warning messages and detecting tiredness, speed can be used
to accomplishthis. Most fatal accidents involve motorcycles than four-wheelers.
They are, nevertheless, the most dangerous road users since, in the absence of a
protective body, even the slightest carelessness can result in serious injuries or
even the rider's death. In addition to carelessness, other factors that contribute to
fatalities include excessive speeding, reckless driving, excessive alcohol usage,
and breaking traffic laws.
According to a recent analysis, four people die in car accidents every hour, and
70% of those deaths are related to not wearing a helmetHowever the lack of a
helmet on the victim was the primary cause of brain damage, which results in
instant death. 80% of head injuries can be prevented if the rider wears a helmet,
and accidents can be prevented and lives can be saved. Our project's goal is to
guarantee safety when travelling on two wheels.

1.3 Identification of Tasks

The task for Smart Bike helmet can vary depending on the specific goals.
Our primarily task is to do attachments in orderto make existing helmets smart.
However, some potential tasks that we could aim to achieve are:
 Crash Detection and Alert System: We are aiming to make a crash
detection system which will send SMS when any kind of hit will be
detected.
 Emergency Button:In modern language we can call is Panic Button. It is
a straightforward push button on the outside of the helmet that is
reachable from both inside and outside. It sends out an emergency alarm
to anyone nearby so that the most approachable persons can be contacted
for assistance.
 Speed Monitoring Using App: One of the primary causes of car
accidents is speed. If emergency personnel had been able to learn about
the tragedy and arrive in time, many lives might have been saved. Thus
through our app we can monitor the speed and prevents this to some
extent.
 Smart Buckle:A smart buckle in a smart helmet is a safety feature that
can help prevent accidents. It works by indicating whether the buckle is
properly locked or not. This can be especially helpful for cyclists who
may forget to buckle their helmet or may not realize that it has come
loose during a ride. With a smart buckle, cyclists can be confident that
their helmet is secure and providing the maximum amount of protection.

1.5 Organization of the report

The whole report is divided into five major parts, which is known as
Introduction, Literature Review, design flow/process, Results analysis and
Validation and Conclusion. Basically, each of the content of each chapter is:

Chapter 1: Introduction This chapter contains the background of the

problem statement generally and includes the objectives and the scope of the
study. Overall, in this chapter, it summarized the progress of the whole
project describing the how the whole project is been done.

Chapter 2: Literature Review In this chapter, any information which is

related to the project is studied and summarized it, such as reading all the
research papers related to it, android studio environment for making app,
and so on. The source of the information can be from journals, books,
internet, articles and etc Based on the information from past studies and
research, it will guide a correct path for the continuous project.

Chapter 3: design flow/process It describes overview of the research

methods and how to design the smart bike helmet. It provides the details of
the procedures like working on Android studio, the functions to include in
app, and using MIT App inventor, attaching all the hardware components
that is required further like sensors.

Chapter 4: Results analysis and validation It states all the results such as
tables, figures and graphs when research carrying out. All the important
results will be presented in a comprehensive way. It also analyses the results
with experimental study. The explanation of results will let readers more
understand on this project. Validation of Result It used the result in Chapter
3 to validate the precision and accuracy of data in achieving optimum value.

Chapter 5: Conclusion It summarizes the main findings and how the scope
is covered fully and brief recommendation for further study. Hence,
alternative ways or suggestions can be recommended for improving the
project in further studies.
