Q.1. The moist unit weight of soil sample is 18.5 kN/m3. Given that w=11% and Gs 2.65.

Carry out calculations for (d, e, n, ww ,Sr ).

Q.2 Determine wt of water in kN that must be added to a cubic meter of soil to attain 68%
degree of saturation if the dry unit wt of soil is 16.9 KN/cum, water content is 13% and
the specific gravity is 2.61.

Q.3 A soil specimen has a volume of 600 cm3 and a mass of 875 grams. Given: w = 14%,

Gs = 2.60. Determine

a. Void ratio b. Porosity c. Dry unit weight d. Moist unit weight e. Degree of saturation

Q.4 The saturated unit weight of a soil is 20.1 kN/m3 at a moisture content of 21%.

Determine (a) the dry unit weight and (b) the specific gravity of soil solids, Gs.

Q.5 A saturated soil specimen has w = 36% and Dry Density =1.23 g/cm3. Determine:

a. Void ratio b. Porosity c. Specific gravity of soil solids d. Saturated unit density

Q.6 For granular soil, given: density is 117.61 lb/ft3, Dr = 83%, w = 9%, and Gs = 2.65. For
this soil, if emin =0.43, what would be emax? What would be the dry unit weight in the
loosest state?

Q.7 The Dry density of compacted sand is 1.86 Mg/m3 and density of the solids is 2.67
Mg/m3. What is the water content of the material when saturated?
