Motivational letter for the course: Migration, Organization & Urban Entrepreneurship

I would first like say thank you for facilitating the course. I believe the aspects represented in the
(this?) course is of crucial relevance for the many societal problems. When I first heard about
the course (course sagt 3 gange is streg) I was immediately intrigued not just because I find the
academic aspect of migrant organizing extremely interesting, but also because the course gives
the opportunity to go outside of the classroom and explore it as it exists in the real world.
Growing up in Copenhagen I have been exposed to a very negative political discourse in relation
to migration as it is usually (In my experience) only associated with a narrow minded and
negative narrative of immigrants in the political debate. If I am lucky enough to be accepted for
the course,

I hope to learn new perspectives that hopefully can help change the negative narrative and
replace it with a more nuanced understanding of the many positive attributes of migration in
relation to organizations and entrepreneurship.

I hope to learn new perspectives and ideas that represents immigration more fairly and positive
which can give a more nuanced understanding of the many positive attributes of migration in
relation to organizations and entrepreneurship.

I am currently on my second semester of the study program MSc in Business administration and
Philosophy at Copenhagen Business School. Organizational migration has been an interest of
mine ever since I was first introduced to the incredibly complex term that is "migration" at my
bachelor’s in business studies and social psychology at Roskilde University.

For my master’s thesis I would like to explore the many implications of sustainable organizing
from an intercultural perspective. Although it might not seem like there is a direct correlation
between this and migrant organizing, I find that the perspectives from this course can have a
significant effect on how to re-imagine sustainable organizing. It is no secret that our way of
organizing businesses in the western economy has had many negative societal consequences.
We need to change our path of living to secure the common wellbeing of future generations
and it is ignorant to think that we in the west have all the answers to the problem.
The motivation for the thesis comes from my experience of living on the Caribbean coast of
Costa Rica while working at an animal rehabilitation center in my gap year. I was especially
influenced by the cultural differences in how Costa Ricans perceive themselves as
interconnected with nature. I believe we in the west can learn a lot from cultures like this.
This course in Migration, Organization & Urban Entrepreneurship would be of great benefit in
this relation as it would give me new perspectives on the many positive attributions of migration
organizations.
I look forward to hearing from you. All the best,
Ofelia Maria Rosenørn-Dohn
