In the study “The Azeotropic Distillation for Bioethanol Purification: The Effects of Entrainer Solvents”
according to the researchers (T Sriana et. al 2020). From all the biofuels available in Indonesia,
bioethanol is one of the most intriguing. The generation of bioethanol has been the subject of numerous
research investigations in recent years. The refining procedure is the primary issue in using bioethanol as
an alternative energy source. In this study, the researchers discussed their efforts to improve the purity
of bioethanol. Investigated were the results of various entrainer arrangements. Based on their research,
they discovered that using two entrainers together produced more pure ethanol than using just one.
When 10% (v/v) n-Heptane is combined with cyclohexane-n-heptane, the purity of the ethanol can be
increased to 87.39%. This is one of the conceivable combinations of entrainer.

According to the study “Simulation of the Azeotropic Distillation for Anhydrous Bioethanol Production:
Study on the Formation of a Second Liquid Phase” conducted by Tassia L. Junqueira,et.al (2009). Sugars
are fermented to produce a diluted solution (about 10 weight percent ethanol), which is then used to
make bioethanol. Due to the fact that water and ethanol combine to form an azeotrope with a
concentration of 95.6 weight percent ethanol at 1 atm, another separation method, such as azeotropic
distillation, must be used to obtain anhydrous bioethanol, which can be blended with gasoline. Aspen
Plus software was used in this study to simulate the azeotropic distillation process with cyclohexane in
three distinct configurations for the manufacture of anhydrous bioethanol. In order to reduce the
occurrence of a second liquid phase within the column, process variables were improved. In this study
evaluations were done on energy consumption, ethanol, and entrainer losses.
