ABSTRACT
In various countries the commercialization of bioethanol is taking place, due to its various
properties that they contain since it is a renewable product and not harmful to the
environment since it is made from different types of biomass. Ethanol is a fuel that can be
obtained from the fermentation of sugars such as sugar cane, beets or any type of biomass,
these sugars contain sucrose, starch, cellulose and hemicellulose, this bioethanol is a non-
harmful biofuel nor toxic to the environment. Bioethanol is very useful for vehicles as it
releases less harmful gas emissions to the atmosphere and bioethanol releases CO2
compared to gasoline; That is why this biofuel alternative has been sought to reduce the
pollution of first generation fuels, currently bioethanol is mixed with gasoline, ethanol has
less polluting physical- chemical properties than benzine (gasoline), in addition, it is
important to determine the water content in fuels and biofuels to carry out quality control in
compliance with established standards; likewise in order to reduce corrosion problems or
safety problems in the product. Each time the production of bioethanol is carried out to be
mixed with gasoline, respective samples are made before it is released to the market, indeed
those samples do not show water content that exceeds the limit established by the standards
and the moisture content in the sample is too short
PROCEDURE

1. Bioethanol sample was collected from Mojj Engineering Systems Limited, India
through Sunypun Organics Limited, Bangladesh.

2. The collected bioethanol sample was produced from a multi feedstock which was
converted to monomeric sugars via enzymatic hydrolysis, followed by fermentation
using yeast for conversion of sugars into ethanol.
3. The produced bioethanol was purified in a multi-pressure distillation column with
integrated evaporator operating under vacuum at low temperature, and then,
dehydrated to obtain the final product. Octane and petrol were collected from local
market.

4. High quality petrol and octane (almost 100%) were purchased from local fuel
station
5. The 5% and 10% bioethanol blends of petrol and octane were prepared in the
laboratory using the collected bioethanol sample, petrol and octane.

6. While conducting the experiments, the blended samples were remixed at regular interval
(at least once a month) to prevent phases separation.
METHODOLOGY

Table 1. ASTM test methods. Department of chemical engineering. Analyzing physico-chemical

properties of bioethanol and bioethanol-blended fuels. Volume 11, Number 4. Nova Science
Publishers, Inc.

RESULTS
The fuel properties of the seven samples (pure bioethanol, petrol, octane, 5 and
10% bioethanol blends of petrol and octane) were tested according to ASTM
specification.
The test are listed in Table 1. Each test was performed thrice (n = 3) and the
average results obtained were used for further analysis.
MAIN IDEA
We believe that the inevitable depletion of the world's energy supply has led to a worldwide
interest in alternative energy sources to ensure fuel security.
Considering the limited number of companies dedicated to bioethanol production and the
lack of concern for environmental issues, particularly greenhouse gas (CO2), it is vital that
the Cauca Valley seeks alternative renewable fuels for its sustainable development.
While renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydro can be used to generate
electricity or heat directly or indirectly, biomass is the only renewable energy source, in our
case, grape pomace, capable of producing liquid fuels (biofuels) for storage and also as
transportation fuel.
Bioethanol blended with gasoline and octane are at an early stage of development
compared to other alternatives such as CNG or LPG. These blends also have the potential
to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The intention of this experimental paper is to provide the properties of bioethanol and
bioethanol blends (5% and 10%) with gasoline and octane as fuel so that comparisons can
be made and the best option chosen.
