Edward comes to Bella’s rescue on numerous occasions saving her from vampires trying to drink her

blood who are not “vegans” like the Cullen vampire clan. Vegan vampires have trained to overcome their

lust for human blood and feed on animals, such as deer. Edward is also selfless and courageous in the fact

that despite being Bella’s “soul mate”, he tries to stay away from her in an attempt to keep her safe from

other vampires (Edward Cullen). Adding to his chivalry of

opening doors for others and being ever so polite, he is also quite strong and faster than a

cheetah. He can stop cars with his body, kill other very strong vampires and run at top speeds to

save others from danger. Edward has incredibly valiant qualities, but his sensitive side could

perhaps be argued to be the most winning characteristic.

Edward, despite his sometimes scary vampiric attributes, is a soft and caring individual.

Even though Jacob appeared to care about Bella, he was really only captivated with her looks,

rather than her true self, which is what Edward loved the most. Edward would sweetly watch

over Bella at almost all times during the day. He would not only keep his eyes on her during

school, but would also sometimes sneak in through her bedroom window and quietly watch her

sleep. He never tried to hurt her, but would just watch her peaceful face as she slept. He also

waited a very long time before he gave in to holding Bella’s hand, let alone kissing her, in spite

of her unsubtle advances. His compassion for her is also displayed when he saves Bella’s life

(more than one time); however, the most fantastic concerned save was when Bella was bitten by

a non-vegan vampire. Because she was bitten, Bella would have turned into a vampire which is

not only painful physically, but emotionally. Because Edward did not want Bella to go through

this experience, he took the chance of having to bite her in order to suck the venom out. He had

to hold back his deep seeded need for human blood to save her and because of his love for her,

he was able to be selfless. He always puts Bella’s needs first which goes to show just how

wonderful of a person he really is.

literature not only shows the world of vampires, good and evil,

but also shows the unique personalities of people. Through the

trials and tribulations presented in this series, one can easily see that Edward Cullen is far

superior to that of his nemesis, Jacob Black, in that Edward is more strikingly handsome, more

courageous and more caring. Join “Team Edward” immediately to show allegiance to his cause!
