Material:
Yarn weight: Sport / 5 ply (12 wpi)
e.g., 60% cotton 40% acrylic, Kacenka by Nitarna Česka Trebova, www.nitarna.cz
Yardage: 164 yards (150 meters) per 50g ball
You will need about 48 grams.
I used a hook 3 mm
Colors: 7784 brown, 3374 red, 2254 orange, 7104 beige, 1164 yellow, 1134 light yellow,
0010 white, 7134 light coffee
Other materials: black buttons average 1,5 cm, toy filling, cube button average 2 cm, two
red buttons average 1,5 cm, beige toho beads size 6/0, wooden beads, needle with blunt tip,
heart button size 1,5 cm
The size of the finished owl Emma: height 18 cm/ 7 inches, width of the head 12 cm/4,2
inches
Abbreviations used:
Chain (CH)
Slip stitch (SlSt)
Single crochet (SC)
Half double crochet (HDC)
Double crochet (DC)
Treble/triple crochet (TR)
Increasing (inc): 2 SC in same stitch
Decreasing (dec): crochet 2 SC together
Instruction:
Head
crochet with light coffee yarn, hook 3 mm. You will crochet continuously in spiral circle rounds
– it means that you will NOT join the rounds.
Beginning: 54 CH, join by one 1 SlSt

Round 1 - 12: single crochet in each stitch around (54 SC)
Round 13: 1 SC in next 6 stitches, dec – repeat 6 times totally, 6 SC (48 SC)
Round 14: single crochet in each stitch around (48 SC)
Round 15: 1 SC in next 5 stitches, dec – repeat 6 times totally, 6 SC (42 SC)
Round 17: 1 SC in next 4 stitches, dec – repeat 7 times totally (35 SC)
Round 20: 1 SC, dec – repeat 7 times totally (14 SC)
Roudn 21: dec – repeat 7 times totally (7 SC)
Fill the head with toy filling and sew the rest of the stitches together.
Body: Use beige color yarn, hook 3 mm. You will crochet continuously in spiral circle rounds –
it means that you will NOT join the rounds.
Round 1: 2 CH, 7 SC in second stitch from hook (7 SC)

Round 2: inc in each stitch around (14 SC)
Round 3: 1 SC, inc – repeat 7 times totally (21 SC)
Round 4: 1 SC in next 2 stitches, inc – repeat 7 times totally (28 SC)
Round 5: 1 SC in next 3 stitches, inc – repeat 7 times totally (35 SC)

End the work after round 25. Fill the body with toy filling. Be carefull and fill it enough
especially in the neck part.
Wings:
Wings are created from heart appliques. Crochet two yellow, two red and two orange hearts.
Instruction: 4 CH, insert a hook into last chain from the hook and crochet all stitches into this
stitch: 3 TR, 3 DC, 1 CH, 1 TR, 1 CH, 3 DC, 3 TR, 3 CH, 1 SlSt – you will have the heart. Don't
end the work, make chain string – different lenght for all colors (red 12 CH, orange 16 CH,
yellow 20 CH). Then end the work. Sew the heart strings on the body. Pull free threads inside
body and make a knot, to be sure, that the string will not tear off. Sew little red button there.
Join the edges of the head by pins and sew the edges together. Then sew the head to body.
Eyes: use yellow yarn and make two eyes.

Round 1: 5 CH, insert hook in second stitch from the hook and make 4 SC. Don't turn the
work and crochet continuously in circle direction
Round 2: 3 CH, 3 DC in one stitch – marked by red dot
1 DC in next 2 stitches, 5 DC in one stitch, continue in circle direction, 1 DC in next 3 stitches,

2 DC in one stitch, join first DC with 1 SlSt (16 DC). Then turn the work and continue in circle
direction
Round 3: 1 CH, 1 SC in very first stitch, 2 SC in one stitch – repeat 2 times totally, 1 HDC in
next stitch, 1 DC in next stitch, (2 DC in one stitch) – repeat 7 times totally, 1 DC in next
stitch, 1 HDC in next stitch, (2 SC in one stitch) – repeat 2 times totally, join first SC with 1
SlSt, end the work (27 stitches)
Round 4: use light yellow color: 1 SC in next 9 stitches, (2 SC in one stitch, 1 SC in next 2
stitches) – repeat 3 times totally, 2 SC in one stitch, 1 SC in next 9 stitches. Join first SC with
1 SlSt, end the work (32 stitches)
White circle:
Use white color yarn; make 2 pieces
Beginning: 5 CH, join with 1 SlSt and form a ring
Round 1: 3 CH as a 1st DC, 10 DC, join first DC with 1 SlSt (11 DC), end the work.
Sew both parts of the eyes together. Sew black buttons on white circles. Sew the eyes on the
head. Embroider the eyes by beige beads.
Forehead:
Beginning: use yellow yarn and make 5 CH, join with 1 SlSt and make a ring.
Round 1: 3 CH (count as 1 DC), 1 DC in next stitch, 1 CH, [2 DC, 1 CH] repeat the group in
bracelets 4 times totally, join first DC with 1 SlSt. En the work. You will have 5 groups of 2 DC
with 1 CH spaces in between.
Round 2: use orange color yarn and make: 3 CH as a 1 st DC, in very first chain space make 1
DC + 1 CH + 2 DC + 1 CH – all in one space. Then crochet in every 1 CH space from previous
round [2 DC, 1 CH, 2 DC, 1 CH] – repeat 4 times totally. Join first DC with 1 SlSt, end this
round.
Round 3: use red color yarn and make: 3 CH (count as first DC), 2 DC, 1 CH – all in one CH
space from previous round. Crochet [3 DC + 1 CH] in every CH space from previous round.
Join first DC with 1 SlSt, end this round.
Round 4: use beige yarn: 1 SlSt, 3 CH, 1 SlSt in next stitch – repeat to the end of this round.
End the work. Neaten free threads.
Sew the forehead circle on the head, use brown color yarn. Sew cube button on the body.
Coat
You will crochet granny triangle. Use different color yarn for every row.
Beginning: use light coffee color - 4 CH, insert hook in last stitch from the hook and make:
3 DC + 2 CH + 3 DC + 1 CH + 1 DC – all in one stitch. End work, turn.
Row 1: use beige color yarn – 4 CH, 2 DC in first 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH,
(3 DC +2 CH + 3 DC) in 2CH space from previous round, 1 CH, (2 DC + 1 CH + 1 DC) in 1CH
space from previous round. End the work, turn.
Row 2: use brown color yarn – 4 CH, 2 DC in first 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH, 3 DC
in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH, (3 DC + 2 CH + 3 DC) in 2CH space from previous
round, 1 CH, 3 DS in 1CH space from previous round, (2 DC + 1 CH + 1 DC) in 1CH space
from previous round. End the work, turn.
Row 3: use light coffe color yarn – 4 CH, 2 DC in first 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH,
[3 DC in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH] - repeat 2 times totally, (3 DC + 2 CH + 3
DC) in 2CH space from previous round, 1 CH, [3 DC in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH]
- repeat two times totally, (2 DC + 1 CH + 1 DC) in 1CH space from previous round. End the
work, turn
Row 4: use beige color yarn – 4 CH, 2 DC in first 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH, [3 DC
in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH] - repeat 3 times totally, (3 DC +2 CH + 3 DC) in
2CH space from previous round, 1 CH, [3 DC in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH] -
repeat , (2 DC + 1 CH + 1 DC) in 1CH space from previous round. End the work, turn.
Row 5: use brown color yarn – 4 CH, 2 DC in first 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH, [3
DC in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH] - repeat 4 times totally, (3 DC +2 CH + 3 DC) in
2CH space from previous round, 1 CH, [3 DC in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH] -
repeat 4 times totally, (2 DC + 1 CH + 1 DC) in 1CH space from previous round. End the work,
turn.
Row 6: use light coffee color yarn – 4 CH, 2 DC in first 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH,
[3 DC in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH] - repeat 5 times totally, (3 DC +2 CH + 3 DC)
in 2CH space from previous round, 1 CH, [3 DC in 1CH space from previous round, 1 CH] -

Neaten free threas. Pin the coat to the body and sew to the body. Sew orange wodden beads.
