Physics students wanted to investigate the forces of attraction (F) between two parallel
conductors carrying currents I1 and I2 (Amperes Law). The students noticed that as the length of the
parallel conductors was increased, the force of attraction between the conductors also increased.

i) Plot the force and length values from the table onto a grid.
ii) Draw the line of best fit.
iii) Find the slope of this line
iv) Use the slope calculated and Ampere’s Law to determine the experimental value of the
magnetic force constant, k.

A 2.60N metal bar, 1.50m long and having a resistance of 10 OHMs rests horizontally on conducting
wires connecting it to the circuit. The bar is in a uniform magnetic field of 1.6T and is not attached to
the wires in the circuit. What is the acceleration of the bar just after the switch is closed?
