Lubhuku Workshop Survey

Executive Summary

A survey was conducted on the Lubhuku workshop site on the 11th of January. Data collection
involved taking measurements of the workshop and making quotes for the lighting system. The
dimensions were found to be 153 x 54 cm for the window frame in the fabrication shop. The
workshop measured 20 x 8.0 m.

1. Introduction
1.1 Background
The Lubhuku workshop is situated near Mpaka and has recently been acquired by Quality
Engineering. The site used to be a treated timber warehouse which is now being renovated to
function fully as a decentralized workshop for quality.

1.2Aim
The purpose of this project is to make the Lubhuku site a functional workshop for staff
members in various departments to fulfil tasks such as drilling, grinding and machining.
Further, the aim is to make the workshop energy self-sufficient in the near future. Solar power
generation is the primary option being considered, with trade-offs in cost and maintenance.

2. Methodology
2.1 Lighting system
The lighting system has the following requirements:
 8 single filament lights
 8 LED lights (fabrication shop)
 1 double fluorescent tube (storage)

The figure above depicts a top view of the workshop, with dimensions 19.8 x 8m. The fabrication
shop has an opening with dimensions 153 x 54 cm for the window frame.
