I. Chapter I

a. Background

Gaming in the Philippines in general is often affiliated with the leisure we

know “Video Games” but just recently Philippines is adapting to the Gaming
Development that the whole world was doing since 1977, the era of “Atari”. Game
Development in general is a 3d oriented task and programming to deliver a new
set of “Media” (aside from TV, Internet, Videos, etc.) that is more “interactive” than
what we know. It incorporates and imposes viewer’s agency to control what is
happening in the screen. At the time of writing, the gaming companies
accompanied by the tech companies, are the leading companies in the world.
Technology is evolving indefinitely, making people reach each other through the
network we called Internet. Thus, gaming also revolutionizes the way how
technology progresses, much like how computer hardware companies (like
NVIDIA, AMD and INTEL) cater the gaming development in their own hardware
and business (products and services).

Philippines has game companies that outsource from the triple AAA
companies in the world, such as “Anino Inc.”, founded in 2001 (outsourced by
Namco, Electronic Arts, Activision, etc.) but right now they focus more in Casino
games (most likely in mobile games), also some other companies like “Secret 6”,
“Digital Art Chefs”, etc. –via CIIT (College of Arts and Technology formerly known
as Cosmopoint International Institute of Technology***)

In general, the proposed title is meant to Design a space that incorporates

the Gaming Development as well as game dev related event (like E3/Dev talk/etc.)
to ensure the popularity of the career of game development for the younger
generations that “generally/most likely” play games. This will inspire for everyone
to pursue a talent they really want, and by doing so, encourages to bring more
products and services (games) for everyone to enjoy, opening opportunity from the
more prominent companies around the world to enter Philippines for a related
game business.

b. Statement of the Problem

The current gaming business in the Philippines generally comprise “mobile

gaming” and “gambling” in which I notice it as an issue in game development.
Although mobile games do rack an unimaginable profit, but for design aspects and
creativity, it shallows down the gaming as a whole because of its monetary
practices*** and psychological manipulation*** to ensure a steady profit off of
“whales***” as they call it.

The lack of game developers in the Philippines makes us left behind from
the whole world (especially a quality AAA games). However, Philippines taps into
the industry for a while now but haven’t reach a wider popularity around the globe.

i. Major Problem

- The lack of AAA quality games and international

market of Video Games in the Philippines for export.

ii. Minor Problem

- Mobile games and gambling have surged these few

years. People tend to spend money with the games
designed to make them spend because of monetary
practices and psychological manipulation (there are
studies that suggest its part of an addiction***).
iii. Objective of the Study

- To encourage aspiring creative minds of younger

generation to pursue a career of having a part and
contribution of their favorite ”pass time,” to deliver a
fantastic worlds and creations, and to have a journey
along.

c. Significance of the Study

With this type of medium to portray creativity, story-telling, etc., can be an

infinite possibility to produce a well-designed piece of art that many generations
can enjoy, as part of their waking life, to the future. Digital goods and services
would likely be easier for us to enter in broader scale of worldwide exchange, as it
needs little to no physical goods to transfer, but rather focusing on deals that can
give us digital exports around the globe. Also, game development doesn’t only
revolve around gaming, as part of the design and workflow of the career, it can
broaden up possible opportunities for the workers to step into VFX,
Cinematography, Graphic Design, etc., because of how related much all of the
basic knowledge, everyone can pursue be part of game design or to have an
opportunity outside game design.
