supplemented by adding r A - 0. Each addi-
tion of, one of these signs indicates an increase in caliber:
j Heavy Machine Gun.

11. Basic symbols for weapons, symbols for arms and
services, and the flags of headquarters may all be com-
bined. Here, for example, is an illustration of the flexi-
bility and adaptability of the German system of military

(Artillery), and A (Mountain).
12. Supplementary letters which are used to show
special employment (F, Gr, Ls, Sich, St, Str, Wa, etc.) are
always found on the left of the symbol, e. g. F Fortress
Engineer Regimental Headquarters.
Other letters, used to denote the nature and organic as-
signment of a formation, arc found on the right of the
