Activity No. 1
Justify Rizals’ alleged trial and guilt: if you are in the shoes of the hero what will you do?
Answer: If I were in the shoes of the hero Rizal, as I was condemned guilty even before the trial
I will still fight for my rights because I am innocent. I was not necessarily against the revolution,
but same with Rizal, I believed that peaceful and gradual reforms were a more effective means of
achieving Philippine independence and social progress.

VIII. Self-Evaluation:Provide the answer in the following table below

1. What made Rizal’s exile in Dapitan a “pleasant life”?
Answer: Rizal won a lottery ticket worth PHP20,000 and divided it with the other 3 holders, he
won more or less PHP6,200 which is equivalent to more or less PHP3 million in today’s value,
then he bought a total of 70 hectares of land with the money he won from the lottery. The exile
to Dapitan gave Rizal freedom and an opportunity to enhance his concept of practical leadership
and nationalism. He taught the farmers the modern method of farming, he opened a school for
young boys of his neighborhood, and many more.
2. Describe the emotional condition of Jose Rizal twenty-four hours prior to his death?
Answer: According to historians, Jose Rizal's emotional state 24 hours before his execution,
stated that he remained composed and dignified throughout his ordeal. He spent his last moments
writing letters and preparing for his death and was visited by family, friends, and fellow
revolutionaries who offered their support. Witnesses described his last moments as calm and
serene, with Rizal facing the firing squad with courage and composure.

X. Post-Test: With your knowledge in this chapter, answer the following questions below.
1. Do you think Rizal “planned” his martyrdom? Why?
Answer: For me NO, since Rizal remained committed to peaceful and gradual reforms, and did
not advocate for violent revolution or armed struggle. He was executed for his beliefs and not
necessarily mean that he sacrificed himself. While his death had a significant impact on the
Philippine revolution and the country's struggle for independence, it was not a deliberate act of
martyrdom but rather a tragic outcome of his commitment to his beliefs.

2. How did Rizal’s death cause the downfall of Spanish colonial government?
Answer: The death of José Rizal triggered widespread outrage and protests among Filipinos,
which boosted support for the revolution against Spanish colonial rule. His execution exposed
the harsh nature of the Spanish government to the world's attention, and the revolutionary leaders
who ended up winning the independence of the Philippines were motivated by his example. The
downfall of the Spanish colonial government was significantly aided by Rizal's death.
