5.1 FINDINGS
➢ Majority of the retailers are facing decline in the business due to the
commencement of supermarkets.
➢ Majority of the retailers have monthly turn over above 50000.
➢ Only fewer retailers are depending supermarket as their source of procuring
goods.
➢ Majority of the retailers are procuring goods from wholesalers and
manufacturers.
➢ Majority of the retailers are not satisfied with their current sales profit.
➢ Majority of the retailers are not providing cash credit to the customers after
the emergence of supermarket.
➢ Only few provide credit card facility to the customers.
➢ Some of the retailers provide door to step facility to customers to meet the
competition after the emergence of supermarkets.
➢ In the opinion of retailers due to the supermarkets there is a reduction in
regular customer, In other words loyal customers relinquished their patronage.
➢ In order to retain the existing customer's majority of the retailers maintained
good customer relation and provided cash credit.
➢ Majority of the retailers having young adults and adults as their regular
customers who attracts towards there store.
➢ Many of the retailers are unaware regarding the closure of similar retail outlets
as theirs.
➢ Retailers are facing change in customer attitude towards them due to the
supermarkets nearby.
➢ The majority of the retailers are not using computerised billing system. Only
a few depends on computerised billing system.

➢ The major reason pointed out by majority of the retailers for the closure of
outlets is that the competition aroused from supermarket.

5.2 SUGGESTIONS

➢ The retail store may introduce the door delivery facility.


➢ The retail store may display the price discount.
➢ The retail store can modernize their store by introducing computerized billing
system.
➢ The retailers may provide credit card facility for shopping.
➢ The retail store can try to offer the facilities like self service, car parking
facility and so on.
➢ The retail owners can form a cartel for protecting their interest and rights such
as fixing price.
➢ Government may take steps to control prices.
➢ Step to be taken to strengthen the capital base of small retailers.

5.3 CONCLUSION
It is concluded from the above analysis that all formats of retailers were affected due
to the formation of supermarket in the study area. The supermarket made an adverse
impact on the sales and profit of retailers. The impact is invariably on all formats of
retailers. Retailers provide various value added services to compete with
supermarket like cash reduction in their regular customers and provide home
delivery facility. They maintain customer relationship and reduce price of the
products etc. Despite the challenges posed by the emergence of supermarkets,
retailers still play a crucial role in the retail ecosystem. They provide consumers with
a more personalized shopping experience and are often able to offer a wider selection
of niche products that may not be available in supermarkets. They also help to
promote local businesses and support the local economy.

The emergence of supermarkets has had a significant impact on the role of retailers.
Retailers have adapted by providing personalized service, unique products, and some
of them are forming partnerships with supermarkets. They continue to play a crucial
role in the retail industry and will remain an important part of the shopping
experience for many consumers.
