Battery Configuration

1. Formula
P ( VA ) × PF
W(cell)=
η× S × P ×n
P(VA):capacity
PF:power factor
η:inv. efficiency
S:number of battery strings
P:number of battery parallels
n:number of cells,usually 6 cells
2. Requirements
UPS capacity Backup time Power factor Inv. Efficiency
200KVA 30 0.9 0.95
120KVA 30 0.9 0.95

3. Calculation process
A. 200KVA 30mins back up.
a) 200 KVA@ 30 minutes (PF 0.9) Parallel redundant for full load of each UPS and
separate battery bank
When 2*200KVA parallel redundant, as requirement for full load consideration, so
consider each UPS taking 180KW load and battery as per requirement.
P ( VA ) × PF
W(cell)= =200KVA*0.9/(0.95*3*32)= 1973 W/cell
η× S × P ×n
AccuForce 12V - 200Ah battery can provide 2080 watt/cell @ 1.75V ,32S*3P batteries
to meet the requirement.
Each UPS need 3*32 pcs 200AH.
B. 120KVA 30mins back up.
a) 120 KVA@ 30 minutes (PF 0.9) Parallel redundant for full load of each UPS and
separate battery bank
When 2*120KVA parallel redundant, as requirement for full load consideration, so
consider each UPS taking 108KW load and battery as per requirement.
P ( VA ) × PF
W(cell)= =120KVA*0.9/(0.95*2*40)= 1421 W/cell
η× S × P ×n
AccuForce 12V - 150Ah battery can provide 1560 watt/cell @ 1.75V ,40S*2P batteries
to meet the requirement.
Each UPS need 2*40 pcs 150AH.
