Activity: Leveling of Expectations: Goal Setting and Planning

3. Develop Plan to achieve the goals

Introduction

At the start of the academic year or any activity we usually set expectations. What is an expectation?
Expectation is the act or state of looking forward or anticipating (dictionary.com). When we look forward,
we usually have in mind that something good will happen. There could be doubts, hence we may also
think that it might be the opposite. We want our expectations to happen. How can expectations be a
realized? Realization of expectations involves 4 steps- expectations, goal, plan and attainment. I have
developed an attainment process, where the steps would serve as a guide foe our activity. See figure
below.

A. The steps for our activity “Leveling of expectations”, is listed below.

1. Set expectations. Review your expectations, and try to prioritize, and write in down
Example: Consideration in submission of outputs.

2. Translate expectation to a goal. A goal is a target that you want to achieve


(dictionary.cambridge.org). You have to explore whether the expectation is realistic, before you
can convert it to a goal.
Example: Able to submit outputs with the time period.

3. Make a plan. A plan may involve yourself alone, group mates and the teacher, etc.
Example:
a. Time management
b. Prioritize tasks
c. Ask for assistance from classmates, teacher

B. Write you output in the Table. A separate form is attached.
