ABSTRACT
The Philippines has redefined and expounded the K-12 Enhanced Basic Education
Curriculum. One of the prominent aspect of this change is the students undertaking of research
subjects that further lead them to produce a research output. This study identifies the extent of
senior high school (SHS) experiences and challenges in conducting research through their planning
and time management, language construction, statistical utilization, funding, participating
samples, and research motivation. Also, personal barriers are critical towards attaining student
goals such as; availability of devices, internet connection, review skills, household errands, and
conflicts with group members. A survey research method was utilized with two hundred fifty-five
(255) respondents from the different SHS strands in which data were treated with ANOVA and
Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test for the significant and apparent differences of the responses,
respectively. It reveals that Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) students experienced
a lot of challenges and barriers in which they have difficulties in grammar construction or language
proficiency, time management, confuses the use of statistical treatment, and experiencing lack of
motivation to pursue the research, while doing household errands is significantly evidently as
barrier in the conduct of their research in all SHS strands. Aside from these identified challenges
and barriers, students showcase a positive feedback on the research process, working in the
different laboratory facilities in the university, encountered and were supervised by laboratory
heads and university officials, which then further entice their inclination to do and broaden up their
research skills.
