RESEARCH PLAN
I. Topic
• Challenges and opportunities of working students in Technological University of the Philippines- Manila.

II. Background
• The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the status since March 2019, which affected institutions like schools and
the economy. The learners, specifically working students, encountered opportunities and numerous challenges
posed by the new modality utilized to resume classes in the new normal (Esteron, 2021). Furthermore, working
students, as self-sustaining, persist in earning despite additional challenges because of motivations like their
socio-economic problems, academic fees, and an opportunity for personal development (Abenoja et al., 2019).
The challenges that are faced by working students amidst the pandemic have distinct factors compared to the
pre-pandemic situation. According to (Inoue et al., 2021), the number of working students has significantly
decreased since the onset of the pandemic. However, some students still choose to work despite the threats of
the virus. The change in the academic environment and working conditions affected several factors that can
become a challenge or an opportunity for working students (Choi et al., 2021). The study of Ciu and Ermac
(2021) reveals diverse results gathered from different schools in which there are numerous determinants. It
conveys that the challenges and opportunities differ at varying locations and have established specific
solutions. Consequently, having a specified set of informants could garner a discrete result to determine
precise conclusions. Being a working student was becoming the best version of themselves. It was about
sacrifice and most importantly, it was about dedication and proving to the world that poverty will never be a
hindrance to fulfilling one's dreams. The " poverty is not a hindrance to education " theme was the crucial
element of the informants' overwhelming experience.

III. Statement of the Problem

• What are the main possible reasons leading TUPIAN student, to work and study at the same time?
• What are the obstacles currently that have experiencing by the working students, when they have work and
study at the same time?
• How do working students manages their time and availability towards on their life situation?

IV. Methodologies
A. Research Design
• The research design was adopted in the study of descriptive design of research because it describes the data
above the population under this study. It answers the questions who, what, when where and how. This was
used in the study since the study focuses on the challenges and opportunities of working students in
Technological University of the Philippines- Manila.

B. Research Locale
• The research will be conducted at Technological University of the Philippines-Manila. The research will conduct
data gathering procedure in all college department of Technological University Philippines- Manila. The
researchers would like to know the student’s perception about the challenges and opportunities of working
students in Technological University of the Philippines- Manila.

C. Sample and Sampling Technique


• The researchers used probability sampling under the simple random sampling method. Wherein, the only
selected number of students or participants will be the one or involved in this study. The researchers chose this
method for them to gather information about the challenges and opportunities of working students in
Technological University of the Philippines- Manila. The sampling will be used to gather information and the
results as we conduct this study.

D. Instrument
• The instrument that will be used in this research was a survey questionnaire that composed of several
questions to gather information from respondents. With the use of this approach, will be able to collect data to
fill the needs of our research about the challenges and opportunities of working students in Technological
University of the Philippines- Manila.

E. Data Gathering Procedure


• The researchers used survey questionnaires to collect or gather information from the respondents. Next, the
researchers will analyze the questions to get some important details from the respondent’s answers. The answers
from the respondents will be confidential to protect their privacy and personal information.

V. Expected Outcomes
• The researchers aim to have an understanding about the challenges and opportunities of working
students in Technological University of the Philippines- Manila. As this understanding will identify the
struggles of working students that can affect the students’ academic performance. The teachers and
staff will understand and analyze their student’s situation, giving a huge amount and respect and
consideration about their dedication on their goals in life. Lastly, this research will easily identify, the
opportunities of becoming a working student, plays a very vital on student’s positive outlook and develop
their character and skills. We are positioning this to be as a collection of research and as a reference to
help our stakeholders deciding in regards with challenges and opportunities of working students in
Technological University of the Philippines- Manila.
