My recent experience with Airbnb was actually a terrible one.

I've rented some homes from Airbnb

before, not many. I've rented from other websites. My biggest issue here was I rented a home for my
family. My family was pretty large. It was 14 people total with children. We rented this house back in
beginning of December. My brother rented a house on his name first. It was then about 2-3 weeks later
that house was canceled, said it was double booked and we needed to find something else. This was
early enough time our trip was the end of March, so close to January, we had some time. We then
rebooked something and this time booked it under my account not my brother's. I booked another
home and the home seemed perfect. It had great reviews. The host had 27 or 28 other listings. Also had
all high reviews over 4.5 in all of the different listings. In addition, we looked through the reviews of the
host and the host had high response time as people reviewed and basically all good reviews. I felt safe
with it. I asked him a couple of questions he replied efficiently and quickly. About a month before my
trip, so this is towards the end of February, I tried reaching him, I had another question for him, he
never responded. I tried again beginning of March, he never responded. I tried several more times then
called Airbnb and told Airbnb, "Listen, we have an issue. I can't reach the host, I'm getting nervous. It's a
large trip. I can't find any other homes at this moment. Nothing available, nothing of my price range,
nothing that's available at the times that I need, which were very specific in the neighborhood that I
needed, which was also very specific." Nothing was available at that time. Airbnb said, "We're going to
try to reach out." I spoke to a few different representatives they said they'll reach out, I didn't hear from
anybody days later. I called again. Again, same story, they told me they'll reach out to him and try to get
him, they can't get a hold of him yet, they'll call me back. A day or a day and a half later I get a call from
Airbnb saying, “We still haven't been able to reach him.” And at this point they're giving me an option to
cancel my trip. Meanwhile, it's about a week out before my trip, and I can't find anything that's remotely
in the range and in the area that I need, so I was stuck. I left my booking because I trusted the review
system that Airbnb had. Meanwhile, the review system seems to be flawed because this guy never
responded to me. Last day, the day I was supposed to fly in on, we were supposed to fly into Orlando on
the 24th. On the 23rd he informs me that he can't accommodate us, and that the AC is not working, and
that he needs to cancel the booking, and he doesn't cancel it yet, he offers me another home that's very
far away, that's much smaller than I needed and he is telling me, "It's a little cheaper so you'll save
money." Meanwhile, he didn't respond to me for over a month, Airbnb couldn't reach him. The problem
I think that Airbnb has, I understand that this is out of their hands and I understand this is in the host.
But the problem is that I'm not able to leave a review for this man. I'm not able to let the people know
that he canceled the last minute. I heard a lot of other stories with Airbnb while I was on my trip. I
ended up finding a home, not through Airbnb. I ended up staying and I went to go see that house
because I had the address. It was nearby from where I needed to be. There were people there the next
day, there were people. I have a very, very hard time believing that there was an AC problem. I heard
that from other people in the neighborhood that their were doubled bookings and I heard that people
were getting higher offers and canceling their first bookings, the earlier bookings, which is a huge
problem and Airbnb needs to take control of this. I'm not sure how, I'm not sure what needs to be done.
I'm definitely going to do whatever I can to move forward on this because this guy ruined my trip, he
ruined my timing with my family. He didn't give me enough time to figure things out. I had one day to
find a house before my flight, it was a total disaster, nightmare. Airbnb didn't give me any support.
Airbnb told me we can give you credit you a $200 credit, which was nothing, which is nothing. Two
hundred dollars is not enough to fix the issues that I had. Aside from that they didn't offer me any
alternatives. They said, "We can help you find a listing." I don't need help finding a listing. I know how to
search a listing. It doesn't help. We would need more help from Airbnb. Airbnb I feel needs to take more
control of their hosts and take more control of their listings and they should be responsible for their
listings and they should stand by their reviews, not have false advertising. I unfortunately can't review
this individual because I never stayed at his home, so I can't let people know and that's a major issue.
I'm sure he had other issues like this before where he canceled last minute on people and didn't
respond to them. I'm sure it happened and no one can know about it. I looked at all those reviews
they're all over 4.5, 28 listings, which is a big say. I think it's a big problem and I can't trust Airbnb at this
point.
