HUNTSMAN TEXTILE EFFECTS

Bleaching
Bleaching means to destroy the natural dyestuff of the fiber.

There are two chemically different bleaching processes:

⚫ Oxidative bleaching with hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite,

sodium chlorite or peracetic acid
⚫ Reductive bleaching with stabilized hydrosulfite preparations and
sulfoxylates.

The choice of chemicals depends on the required degree of whiteness, on technological and ecological
aspects, on the machinery and on economic aspects.

Overdosing of the bleaching chemicals, insufficient temperature regulation, too long bleaching times,
existence of catalysts, insufficient stabilizing, etc. may lead to damaging of fibers.

Mercerizing
• Yarns, knit goods or woven goods of cellulose fibers and their
blends with synthetic fibers are mercerized to improve the quality
of the material and increase the color yield.
• Mercerizing means treating cotton with 28 - 32°Bé caustic soda
with simultaneous cloth tension.

Mercerizing
• General
Caustic concentration 270 - 330 g/l NaOH 100% (28-32 °Bé)
Mercerizing Detergent( Invadine MR) 2-3 g/l
Caustic temperature 15 - 20 °C (hot mercerization 60 - 90 °C)
Reaction time 45 - 60 sec. (hot: shorter time)

Stabilizing up to about 50 g/l NaOH 100%
Mercerizing wetting agent for quick and even wetting
Pretreatment raw, desized, boiled off, bleached

HUNTSMAN TEXTILE EFFECTS

Requirements of RFD Fabric for Continuous Dyeing

✓ Dry (no extra moisture content, it may also dilute the bath).

✓ Good absorbency (Instant-3 sec)

✓ Neutral reaction (Core pH should be around 6-6.5).

✓ Free of bleach residues and size( Tagewa Scale 6-9)

✓ Conditioned before dyeing (Temperature, Moisture Content) Good base whiteness

Pick-up, Immersion Time, Speed
Pick-up must be within specification (45 - 55 % on PES/CEL, 60 - 70% CEL),
uniform across the width, consistent throughout each lot and from lot to lot.

Pick-up depends on: ⚫ Pad pressure

⚫ Pad speed (dip to nip time, wetting out)
⚫ Dye level in the trough (more contact time).
⚫ Dye Bath Chemicals
⚫ Fabric

Immersion time should be 1 - 2 s, measured from the time the goods enter
the bath until they are squeezed between the nip rolls

Speed must be constant within the batch.

HUNTSMAN TEXTILE EFFECTS

Infrared pre-drying

Removal of water from the padded fabric in the absence of

➢ Strong air currents and
➢ Fabric-to-metal contact heat, which accelerate dye migration.
(Migration occurs when fabric comes in contact with hot metal rollers)

Moisture content after IR pre-drying should be 30+2 %

Exactly same across the width of fabric

The True essence of Cost
Cost is a relative term and optical cost in nothing final .Cost can be
optimized with performance and dosage.

Our cost performance ratio is always beneficiary to the Customer

Remember Cost of Non-Conforming( Rework) and Non-RFT is most

expensive because you lose your Time, Productivity and Resources.
Moreover, Rework cost added.
