Q1: Discuss how visual language conventions have been used in Text

1 to challenge or reinforce ideas present in modern society.

Body Paragraph 1

S1. Firstly, in the image, the visual language convention of body

language has been used to challenge the dominant idea in modern
society that all races are equal.

S2. In modern society, there is a strong and growing conviction that

all races are equal, regardless of skin colour or ethnicity.

E. In the image, we see a large group of indigenous Australian men.

Their body language is stiff, scared and has the appearance of being
controlled.

A. Through the use of this visual language convention, the idea of all
races being equal is heavily challenged. The reader is positioned to
view the black men as inferior, which is likely to challenge the
modern person’s ideals. At this post-colonial time, the Australian
government had implemented the White Australia Policy, which
deemed indigenous Australians as a race that had to be bred out.
Modern society values each race equally, meaning this image does
not align with modern standards.

L. This is how body language has been used in the image to challenge
modern society’s idea that all races are equal.
