Academic stress due to the factors of Parent’s and Teacher’s expectation on the students of Grade 12

STEM in RMIDCI

Abstract

Stress are results of student’s academic life due from various expectations that came from
parents and teachers. Teenagers or adolescents are the ones being particularly vulnerable to the
problems associated with academics as it does change an individual and their social level. Some students
may experience more stress than others. Most students are craving for a little so that their parents are
proud. Therefore, it is important to understand the sources that highly impact academic stress.

Introduction

This paper examines the perception of academic stress among the Grade 12 students in STEM A on
RMIDCI. This study is focused on the exploration of how Grade 12 students perceive stress and
experience specific stress in different kind of situations. Stress level may escalate to significant
proportion in some students. It present symptoms of anxiety and nauseous feeling especially during test
and examination period. Current study explored the gender difference in forms of perception of
academic stress among the Grade 12 STEM A students.

Students are exposed to academic stressors such as an extensive academic works, time management,
educator, and family’s pressure which can reduce motivation and hinder their chance for academic
achievement.

Academic stress has also been shown to negatively impact mental health in students. Mental or
psychological well-being with the components of happiness, life satisfaction, management and well
function brain is a sign of a positive mental health. Further exploring the relationship between academic
stress and mental well-being is important because poor mental being has been shown to affect
academic performance in students.

The overall aim of this study was to assess academic stress of the senior high school students. Therefore,
this study is conducted to address the gap in research to help identify the impacts of academic pressure
on the senior high school students.
