HOW TO MAKE A MARIONETTE

A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE (no pictures)

Materials needed:

 Pencil and paper

 Scissors
 String
 Tape
 Glue
 Wood or cardboard
 Paint or markers
 Needle

Step 1: Design your marionette The first step is to design your marionette on paper.
Think about what you want your marionette to look like and sketch out a rough design.
Consider how many strings you want to use and how you want the puppet to move.

Step 2: Build the skeleton Once you have your design, it's time to build the skeleton. Cut
out two pieces of wood or cardboard in the shape of your marionette. These will be the
front and back pieces of the puppet. Cut two additional pieces of wood or cardboard in
the shape of the marionette's limbs.

Step 3: Connect the pieces Next, use glue or tape to connect the limb pieces to the front
and back pieces of the puppet. Use a needle to create holes in the joints where the
strings will be attached.

Step 4: String the marionette Now it's time to string the marionette. Tie a string to each
joint of the marionette. Make sure to leave some extra string at the top of the puppet for
the controller. Tie all of the strings to the controller and test out the marionette's
movement.

Step 5: Paint or decorate the marionette Once you're happy with the movement of the
marionette, it's time to paint or decorate it. You can use markers, paint, or any other
decorations you like to bring your puppet to life.

Step 6: Practice and perform Now that your marionette is complete, it's time to practice
your puppetry skills. Spend some time practicing controlling the strings and moving the
puppet. Once you're comfortable, you can perform your marionette for an audience.

And there you have it! With a little patience and creativity, you can make your very own
marionette. Happy crafting!
