APPNOVA

INTRODUCTION
Apps have become an integral part of our lives. From playing games to
ordering medicines online, we depend heavily on apps to meet our
day-to-day needs. But what goes behind the designing and functioning of all
these apps? If that intrigues you then this event is for you, offering a platform
to showcase your skills in designing UI/UX.
THEME
Since the launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957, space exploration has come a
long way, from the first satellite to the emergence of space tourism. In
2001, Dennis Tito became the first-ever space tourist, embarking on a
Russian Soyuz spacecraft and spending over a week aboard the
International Space Station. Over time, cosmic exploration has
exceeded our wildest imaginations with missions like Apollo 11,
Voyager Mission, Mission Mangal, Hubble Telescope, the James Webb
Telescope, and many more.
Mars, our neighboring planet, has captured our interest as it is the only
known planet in the universe entirely inhabited by robots. Elon Musk, a
well-known entrepreneur is widely known for his ambition to make
Mars the first planet, aside from Earth, where humanity will step and
eventually colonize.
As technology continues to advance, with reusable rockets being one
of the latest improvements, the cost-effectiveness of space tourism is
expected to increase steadily.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The participants are required to design the UI and UX of an app.
There’s no restriction on the choice of platform for designing the app.
The theme of the app is basically based on space tourism.
As the possibility of space tourism to Mars becomes increasingly tangible,
there is a requirement for an application that streamlines and enriches the
journey for passengers.
The app is required to assist travelers in every aspect of their journey, from
organizing travel arrangements and reserving space travel tickets and
accommodations to scheduling training sessions and securing spots for
Martian exploration. Due to the potential for a significant increase in the
number of visitors, it is vital to create an app that
can efficiently and safely manage the logistics of space travel and
exploration, while remaining user-friendly and captivating. In order to meet
this demand, a team must create and develop an app that can handle all
aspects of space tourism to Mars, emphasizing safety, accessibility, and
convenience, from booking to exploration.
It is strongly encouraged to identify fresh pain points related to space
tourism and the overall journey experience and to devise effective solutions
to address them.
GUIDELINES
● The student pursuing an Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree in any
discipline is eligible to participate in the event.
● TEAM SIZE - 1-5 members.
● This event comprises two stages

STAGE 1 - DESIGN AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

● Deadline for Abstract Submission: 12th March 2023
● The abstract (limited to a maximum of 2 pages) should include
a. User Research Insights and Pain points identification
b. Information Architecture of the application with solution sketches (can
be on pen-paper)
Basically, we want a brief description of the basic features and solutions that
you are trying to implement and solve.
You can also edit these details post-submission. But for the second stage,
you will have to present a properly documented pdf or ppt (presentation).

● The font style of the abstract must be Arial, and the font size should not
exceed 10.
RULES FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:
● The teams have to compile all of this information in a PDF file. Please
note that the files submitted should NOT be password protected or
corrupted. In either of the cases, the submissions would be straightly
rejected.
● The required file needs to be uploaded on the Cognizance website by
12th March 2023.
● The cover page of the abstract should include the following details of all
team members along with the Team Name:
Name: City:

Branch: E-mail:

Institute Name: Contact No.:

● The file should be in PDF format only and the filename should be

according to the following convention:

ABSTRACT_<EVENT_NAME>_<COGNI_ID>.PDF
(eg ABSTRACT_APPNOVA_COG190023.PDF )
● The confirmation of acceptance of the abstract will be informed via email
to the participant.
STAGE 2 - PRESENTATION OF THE DESIGN
● Shortlisted participants from the first stage will present their designs
offline at Cognizance IIT Roorkee, between 24 - 26 March 2023.
● Each team will be given 15 minutes for presentation, followed by 5
minutes of the Q&A session.
● The presentations would primarily be judged on the basis of the
problem-solving approach, critical thinking, and communication skills.
● Verdicts from the judges will be final.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

● The registration shall be done through the Cognizance website.

● Each Member needs to register on the website. This will generate a

unique Cognizance Id, after email verification.

● The Team Leader (which you will select yourself) needs to login into the
website with his username and password.
