Introduction

UAV is rapidly becoming the overwhelming technology to overcome many

problems of daily life that are difficult to solve at the manual level. One such
application under which drones can be used in disaster management like
the collapse of a building, fire in the building, etc. When a building collapses,
or there is a fire in the area, it is difficult to monitor the people in need.
Therefore, the event caters to the need of the hour, to design a UAV that
can be used in disaster management.
Problem Statement

Design a UAV model to provide services at the time of disaster management

like the collapse of a building, fire, etc. Participants are required to design
mini surveillance drones which can enter through small openings in a
collapsed building scenario, or a building on fire and figure out human
bodies.

Drone Specifications

● Frame Size: 400mm

● Flight Time: 15-20 min
● Weight < 2kg
● It should contain a camera for real-time monitoring.
● It should contain all axis rotations.
● It should be able to detect human bodies.
● It should operate in the dark.
● It should have a high range.
● It should correctly mark the position of the human body found.
● It should be strong enough to cater to the ongoing conditions.
STAGE 1 - ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
Deadline for Abstract Submission: 20th February 2023
● Rough sketches of your idea including the Design Report of your model.
The abstract must specify the use of software and the mechanism used in
the design analysis of the drone.
● USPs (Unique Selling Propositions) of your design and innovations made
by you should be mentioned in the report and mention how they are
going to tackle the specified challenges.
● An abstract of the idea needs to be uploaded on the Cognizance website
before the deadline.
● The abstract should not exceed 500 words and the cover page of the
abstract should include the following details of all team members along
with the Team.

● The confirmation of acceptance of the abstract will be informed via email

to the participant.
Stage-2 (CAD Model Submission)

Deadline for Abstract Submission: 10th March 2023

● The participants are required to submit a CAD model of the drone,

specifying the various actuators and sensors used in the model.
● The model should be according to the specifications given.
Further, add-ons to help in these situations will be appreciated.

Stage-3 (Finals)

● Shortlisted participants should present their concept to a panel of

judges who will evaluate it based on the scoring criteria.
● The teams will be presenting their ideas by building the real model and
presenting it in the arena set up at IIT Roorkee.
● Show and justify the selection of all the commercially available
components (frames, motors, batteries, propellers, etc.) that you have
used in your design.
● The decision of the judges will be final and binding.
● The finals will be conducted during Cognizance 2023 at IIT Roorkee
between 24-26 March 2023.
GUIDELINES

● Eligibility: Students pursuing Undergraduate/Master’s Degrees in any

discipline.
● Team Size: A team can have a maximum of 5 members.
● No Double Troubles: Only one entry would be acceptable. In case of
multiple entries, by default, the first one would be taken for granted.
● Zero Plagiarism: The documents would be tested via special software for
plagiarism. If some duplication would be found, the entire work would be
rejected from the competition.
● Multistage Rules: The event comprises 3 stages.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

● The registration shall be done through the Cognizance website.

● Each Member needs to register on the website. This will generate a
unique Cognizance Id, after email verification.  
● The Team Leader (which you will select yourself) needs to login into the
website with his username and password.
● After logging in to his Cogni ID, the team leader needs to select
INSPECTRON from the dashboard in order to participate in this particular
event.
● The Team Details include the following details of all team members:

● Enter the Cognizance ID of the team leader and other team members.
● This will generate your Team Id and a mail shall be sent to the mail id of
the team leader about the registration.
