Hello everyone my name is Edrick Paras, and I will report about the second section of the OSH

Programming which is Safety and Health Program Defined.

So without further ado let’s now start by defining what is Safety and Health Program.

Safety and Health Program is defined a plan or outline of activities conducted to promote safety and
health consciousness among management and workers in order that accidents and/or illnesses can be
eliminated or minimized to the lowest reducible level.

For example, during the covid-19 outbreak, establishments have made a plan or program to prevent or
control the spread of covid-19. It composes of rules and regulations that workers must follow in order to
reduce the risk of having the covid, just like wearing face mask or the physical distancing of atleast 1
meter.

And that is just like the situation in most work places where workers need to follow certain rules,
procedures or certain activities that is laid out by their respective organizations in order to have a safe
and healthy workplace.

To have a better understanding of the topic, let’s see what does the Safety and Health Program looks
like.

So what you’re seeing right now is an example template of a safety and health program. As you can see
it is a document that contains an organized set of ideas, principles and procedures designed to be
followed to achieve safety and health excellence. And also this is where it spells out management’s
commitment to protect its workers by undertaking measures to control exposures to hazards in the
workplace.

In order to have a successful and effective Safety and Health Program, these elements must be
achieved, first is management leadership which creates a culture of safety, facilitates trust, and
reinforces the core elements.

Second is worker participation, which results in better implementation and evaluation.

Third, hazard identification and assessment, which identifies all known and suspected hazards.

Fourth, hazard prevention and control, which prevents injuries using hierarchy of controls.

Fifth, Education and training, which ensures all workers understand safe work practices.

And Lastly, Program evaluation and Improvement, which assesses program effectiveness.
So those are the elements that completes the safety and health program, if you wish to know more
about these elements, the link is provided at the end of the slide.

So what are the benefits that we can get by using safety and health programs?

First, it reduces the extent and severity of work-related injuries and illnesses, so ang safety and health
program daw kay ginaminimize niya ang risk of injuries and illnesses in the workplace, so ngano? Why?
It is because if the workers would follow and implement the procedures and control measures in
reducing workplace accidents and illnesses, then the cases of these accidents and illnesses will likely to
be minimized.

Second, it improves employee morale and productivity. It is because, if the workers know that their boss
or the management takes care or values their overall wellness, then the workers would feel at ease.
With this, workers will give their maximum effort and productivity.

Lastly, it reduces reduces workers’ compensation costs, this is because, if there will be no accidents or
illnesses in the workplace then the cost for paying worker’s compensation will be reduced.

And that is for my report about the safety and health program, and thank you for listening.
