Interprofessional Collaboration is an important practice that healthcare professionals all over

the world implement every day. The importance of collaboration in a healthcare team is vital
for the safety and education of the patient in all fields of medicine. As nurses, we collaborate
daily with the Physicians, Surgeons, Pharmacists, physical therapists, social workers, and case
managers, and these are just to name a few. I am a new graduate nurse, and it was a
challenging task, learning how to find my voice on the healthcare team, using my knowledge of
the patient that I had spent 2 shifts with to help collaborate with the doctor that did not trust
my recommendation. The article mentions “nurses fear they lack knowledge or are powerless,
and these traits could inhibit the ability of nurses to work as effective collaborators,” and as a
new graduate, I felt that to be true. (Johanson et al. 2008) I knew it was important for me to find
my voice on the team, so that I can get the confidence to trust my knowledge and help advocate
for my patients.
