Problem Statement

1. Trace one of the three cartoon characters provided in the link given below:

2. You can use different tools, such as pen tool, ellipse tool, pathfinder, eyedropper tool and shape builder
tool, etc.
3. After completing the task, take a screenshot of the character.
4. Also take a screenshot of the Layer Panel for each step.
5. Insert all the screenshots of above-mentioned tasks in an MS Word file and upload it on the LMS. (MS
Word file is mandatory).
 Solution:

1. Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document according to your requirements.

2. Place the cartoon character in the artboard.

3. Click on Embed to link the file.

4. After placing the character, lock the original character’s layer and create a new layer for tracing.
Rename both layers by Double Clicking on the layer name in the layer panel.
5. Select the Tracing Layer and start tracing the body of the character with Pen Tool.

6. After completing the tracing and joining the point, select the body of the character with the Selection
Tool. Double click on the Fill box a Color Picker will show. Choose the desired color and click OK.
7. To fill the stroke, click on the Stroke box and a Color Picker will show. Choose the desired color and
click OK.

8. Color filled in the body.

9. Click the eye icon next to a tracing layer by holding the Ctrl key to proceed next for tracing the character.

10. Select Pen Tool from the tool bar and trace the nose of the character
11. Select tracing with the Selection Tool, click on the Fill box, choose the desired color and click OK.

12. Color will be filled in nose.

13. Draw an eyeball with Ellipse Tool by holding the Shift key, select it with the Selection Tool, click on the
Fill box, choose the desired color and click OK. Color will be filled.

14. Similarly, draw the white area of the eye, select it with the Selection Tool, double click on the Fill box,
choose the desired color and click OK. Color will be filled.
15. Similarly complete the second eye of the character.

16. Trace the white area of the ear with Pen Tool, add the Fill and Stroke colors by the following process.
Select the white part of the ear with the Selection Tool, click on the Fill box a Color Picker will show,
choose the desired color and click OK. Similarly add the stroke color.
17. Similarly complete the second part of the ear.

18. Select the desired stroke and draw the Whiskers with the Pen Tool.
19. Similarly complete the Second part of the Whiskers

20. Select the desired Stroke and draw the hand of the character with Pen Tool.
21. Similarly complete the second hand of the character with Pen Tool.

22. Turn off the original character’s layer to see the traced character.
