Static
Title

Everything seemed boring for Rosie, a store manager. She’s always bored and felt everything is static; that the only color
existing are black and white. However, to her, parks are an exception. So to escape the static, she would go to any nearby
park.

“Penny for your thoughts?” A man interrupted Rosie.

“Excuse me? Do I know you?” She scowled.

The man smiled awkwardly. His bed head, pale brown eyes and everything about him caught Rosie off guard. The man
had stared at Rosie’s features as well. Her long brown hair, pale skin, dark brown eyes but he noticed that she seemed
dull.

“It’s me, Aciel. I can’t believe you forgot.”

Rosie was taken aback but responded by telling her name shyly. He was her childhood best friend, but they separated
ways during middle school. After meeting again, everything turned into planned outings. He would often visit her at her
store or they would go out for a walk at the park despite the gloomy weather. This made Rosie realize that it’s okay to let
yourself fall sometimes, and that she’s wrong for seeing things in black and white.

Aciel would mentally scold himself as tears roll down his pale cheeks.

“You will become an actor.” He assured himself, quickly wiping his tears. He was sick of being treated like no one. He
wanted to be recognized for his talent however, his management is not letting him do what he want and they always favor
his co-trainee. He felt hopeless, until they met again.

A sour expression was plastered on Aciel’s face for he is angry at his trainer. He went to the park where he first met Rosie
and sat on one of the swings. After some time, he received a text from his co-trainee, asking if he’s alright. Aciel then
replied saying he’s doing fine. Well, actually, that was a lie. The thing is, he always experience hate and criticism despite
having the looks and talent. Why can’t everyone be treated equally? Dark clouds once again blanketed over the sky. He
took out his phone and stared at his reflection on the screen. His eyes were dark, his smile faded and the once happy
feeling he had has faded away. Now, even the thought of Rosie cannot help.

Several days passed, Rosie stumbled upon an article where she read hundreds of bad rumors and hate comments about the
debuting actor, Aciel. She raised a brow while reading.

“This is ridiculous!” She immediately dialed Aciel’s number however, he’s not answering which made her confused. I
hope nothing bad happens, is what she thought.
A storm came and Aciel’s co-trainee went to fetch him at his waiting room after attending an evening show. When he got
there, he’s surprised that he’s not inside. He searched everywhere until he reached the rooftop. Aciel was stepping closer
to the railing, admiring the dark, gloomy night sky. It’s perfect, he thought. He holds onto the railing and flung one leg
over, then the other, balancing himself on the metal railing. He closed his eyes shut. He wanted to be away from the static.

“Aciel! What are you doing?!” All of a sudden, his eyes opened and he became unbalanced then fell forward.

MODULE 8 – CW Subject Teacher: Enrica Marie M. Quiambao

Rosie didn’t want to believe what she heard after receiving a call from Aciel’s co-trainee. She rushed to the park where
they met in hope that Aciel is waiting, and that he’s alive. But no one’s there. The rain poured even harder as she burst
into tears. She can’t believe he lost himself in the static.
