Our Purpose The purpose of our presentation is to inform you all of the affects of what we post online. Today we will define what exactly a Digital Footprint is, explore the future affects of what we put online, and provide tips on how to keep your digital footprint clean for the future. What is a Digital Footprint? A digital footprint is data that is left behind when people have been online. There are two types of digital footprints which are passive and active. A passive footprint is made when information is collected from the user without the person knowing this is happening. An active digital footprint is where the user has deliberately shared information about themselves either by using social media sites or by using websites. An active digital footprint, along with other things, can be both positive and negative depending on what you put out there. In this presentation active digital footprint will be out main focus. Examples of The 2 Types of Digital Footprint The Effects of Our Digital Footprint Our digital footprint can affect us both negatively and positively. Of course that depends on what exactly that footprint looks like, if your footprint consist of kind and useful tweets,an appropriate username and profile pic, reasonable and concise commenting, liking, and messaging- you’re good! BUT, if you footprint looks like inappropriate images and usernames , bad language disrespect in tweeting , commenting, messaging and the posts you like, and the showing of personal information- we have a problem. The effects of a negative digital footprint include being denied jobs, by friends/family, and from college. The effects of a positive footprint include pretty much the opposite of everything i just mentioned. Reflection What we learned about our digital footprint is that they can impact our future. What others find about us online shapes how they see us or feel about us and in order to sustain a positive digital footprint we have to consider what we post online and always follow the 5 P’s.
