Greeting and Introduction
Good ___________ chairperson, opposition and audience.

We are…

The topic for today's debate is: Are social networking sites useful or harmful to people?
Outline your team's case:
a) Your points:
I will be speaking about...

● How technology has contributed to our lives

● Digital age

● Positive aspects of Social Networks

b) Second speaker's points:
Our second speaker will be talking about....

● How technology has negatively affected our lives

● The bad of the digital age

● Negative aspects of Social Networks

Your First Point
State your argument:
My first point is How technology has contributed to our lives

What's the information that supports your argument?

It is probable that on more than one occasion, we have been able to think that many
young people, also adults, live in a real world, which at the same time overlaps with a
digital world. The Internet has contributed to making us all "connected" to any type of
information with people whom we cannot see. We can also work without leaving home,
buy without going to the store or enroll and even take a course remotely. Years ago it
might have seemed impossible to us. It could even be the plot of a science fiction book.
However, in our days, it is as simple as pressing a key.
Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

According to recent data from the Ministry of National Education, the number of higher
education enrollments, virtual modality, has shown a growth rate from 2011 (13.6%) to
2018 (90%). Although in 2019 the growth rate of enrollments moderated, in 2020 it
rebounded to 98.9%. The reasons that have influenced are diverse.

We can also see digital platforms such as UBER, RAPID, AMAZON and many more where
we do many things digitally.

Your Second Point

State your argument:
My second point is digital age

What's the information that supports your argument? DO YOU WANT TO LIVE LIKE YOU LIVED 10 YEARS
AGO?

We are in a new era and that is that we are fully immersed in the digital age, despite the
fact that many of us were born when everything was analog.
This new digital age revolves around new technologies and the Internet and is carrying
out profound changes and transformations in a society that is moving in a globalized
world. These profound changes represent a true revolution that we have to live; despite
the fact that - still - many people have not realized what is "above us".
The digital age has come to stay definitively among us and is manifested through a true
technological revolution (Internet, computers, ICT devices and tools, forums, chats, blogs,
media, etc.) that is clearly and clearly transforming deepen the habits, language, life and
customs of many people to create a new culture "digital culture".

Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

Netflix made that there are almost no video clubs left, bookin, it has in check tourism
agencies, Google disabled the yellow pages, Airbnb is frightening hotel owners,
whatsapp, threatens landline and cellular operators, social networks to the media, uber to
taxi drivers, olx is putting an end to classified ads, smartphones condemned photography
houses, email condemned postal mail, waze ended gps, the cloud makes more and more
useless to pen drives how long do you think your job will last in its current form? In
addition, you want to continue living as you lived ten years ago.

Your Third Point

State your argument:
My third point is Positive aspects of Social Networks

What's the information that supports your argument?

1.1 1. Speed of information

1.2 2. Knowledge of profiles of interest
1.3 3. Ease to resume contact
1.4 4. Access to all kinds of content
1.5 5. Self-promotion capacity
1.6 6. Source of entertainment
1.7 7. Online sale
Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

Despite the fact that social networks only exist in the virtual environment, it is a place
where people share all kinds of information, that is, they promote interaction with other
people and are linked to the 3 Cs as mentioned by Morduchowicz, et al (2010),
communication through dialogue, community through the integration of related groups
and cooperation through the promotion of shared actions.

Closing statement
Chairperson, opposition and members of the audience, in conclusion reached with this
series of exercises that we have been doing in class is as follows:
I still think that social networks are a great advance for technology and that thanks to it
we can do countless things as I have already explained in my article published on this
blog. Reading information from that of my colleagues I have been able to understand that
social networks are not always good, that sometimes they can pose a fairly wide risk.
However, I think that if people are careful not to expose too much information about
them only what is necessary to access them, you can prevent many events that are
happening today.

Second speaker guide

Speaker’s position (Negative)

Expressing disagreement with first speaker’s arguments

I disagree on the internet and social networks have only contributed positively to our
lives because Technology also has negative aspects.

Why do you disagree with first speaker’s points?

Technology also has negative aspects, such as the malicious content of sex and violence,
in addition to the loss of social contact, because technology absorbs the human being.

Briefly State the Points You Will Make

Today I will be talking to you about:

● How technology has negatively affected our lives

● The bad of the digital age

● Negative aspects of Social Networks

Your First Point
State your argument:
My first point is: How technology has negatively affected our lives

What's is the information that supports your argument?

Despite the great benefits that technology has brought, mainly the internet to our lives,
we cannot ignore that not everything is good when faced with this issue. An important
aspect to keep in mind is that online we can find highly contaminated and harmful
content, especially for children: pornography, violence, among others. It is important to
keep in mind that, if technology helps us in many important matters, I also could not
distract from the realization of the same through social networks and online games.

Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

"A total of 10,424 reports were processed by Teprotejo.org during 2016, on child
pornography, child abuse or maltreatment, cyberbullying, sale of alcohol and other
psychoactive substances by digital means, among others."

Your Second Point

State your argument:
My second point is the bad of the digital age

What's the information that supports your argument?

Although the digital age is a transformation that has not changed much the way of life,
we have to take into account some not so favorable aspects of the new habits that this
generates. We are losing humanity, people only communicate through an electronic
device, be it chat or social networks, friends are virtual and even games days have moved
from the streets to computers, tables and cell phones. The memes that we see very
commonly are not a joke, before parents fought with their children so that they would
enter their home, now the dilemma is that they go out to play in a park. Adults are not
the exception; it is very common to see a scene that is increasingly degrading: the
meetings of adults at the same table moderated by cell phones.

Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

According to a Family TV study. Children and adolescents prefer to spend more time on
the Internet than watching television or playing video games. 30% of children connect
between one and two hours a day while 20% connect more than two
Your Third Point
State your argument:
My third point is negative aspects of Social Networks

What's the information that supports your argument?

For my taste, social networks have become a plague, since a person already has more
virtual friends than face-to-face, and the vast majority of virtual friends generally do not
know them, we have never had a relationship with them by other means. Social networks
are the main cause of the deterioration of social relationships, as they are losing customs
as beautiful as making a birthday call or inviting a friend to go out; Facebook already
makes those contacts.
Another problem is security, they know who their children's friends are on social
networks, and we know who they interact with and what topics they talk about, many of
the disappearances and violations of children and young people have been organized
through this type of communication.

Give examples, fact, figures etc.:

According to a study by Eafit University, 30% of children and young people in Colombia
acknowledged that they have had Internet contact with someone they had not previously
met face to face. Likewise, 17% recognized that after contacting strangers on the
Internet there was an encounter in the physical world.

Closing statement
Chairman, opposition and members of the audience, in conclusion
I consider that although the digital age offers us great opportunities and new ways of
doing things more efficiently, it is an issue to which we must be very careful because not
everything is rosy, we must regain social relations; the Children should not stay as long
on an electronic device, as face-to-face contact is essential in their growth process.
We must bear in mind that the misuse of social networks can damage social, family and
love relationships, and can become a weapon for our children.
