Misool - Raja Ampat, Indonesia

Misool is an islands located in Raja Ampat, Indonesia, known for its pristine coral reefs and abundant
marine life. However, it can be challenging to access due to its remote location and lack of infrastructure.
The island is approximately 165 kilometers from the nearest airport in Sorong, which requires a 2-hour
(or more) flight from Jakarta or Bali.

Once you arrive in Sorong, you will need to take a 4-hour boat ride to reach Misool. The journey can be
rough, and the sea conditions can be unpredictable, making it a painful experience for some people.
Yet, it is possible for independent travelers to visit Misool, but it requires careful planning and
preparation. Fasten your seatbelt, I am the captain now!

FYI
1. Many tourists mistakenly believe that Misool is located outside of Raja Ampat, when in fact
it is still part of the Raja Ampat islands. However, compared to Waigeo, Salawati, and Batanta,
Misool is much further away from Sorong.
2. Pack lightweight and breathable clothing suitable for tropical weather, as well as appropriate
footwear and any necessary equipment for activities such as diving or snorkeling.
3. Even though mosquitoes may sometimes be found on the island/homestay, the chances of
getting infected with malaria, dengue fever, chikungunya, and zika are almost non-existent.
4. The homestay rates in Misool are include full-board, which mean they have buffet-style
meals variety of fresh, locally-sourced dishes, and homemade snack in the afternoon. Since
the day one you stay.
5. If I may, I highly recommend opting for a cabin room when embarking on a pubic boat trip to
Misool. The journey can span up to eight hours, which could be quite challenging if you've
grown accustomed to the finer things in life and crave comfort and luxury.
6. It's wise to have some Indonesian rupiah on hand. This will come in handy for miscellaneous
expenses like tipping your guide or purchasing fresh fruits from the local market at the
harbor. Furthermore, there are other expenditures that require physical cash.
7. Staying at a homestay that's situated near the main island or village, such as Usaha Jaya,
Yellu, or Harapan Jaya, may mean that you'll be stuck with a sluggish internet connection. In
my not-so-humble opinion, the 4G signal they provide is merely a decorative feature and
not something you can rely on for speedy internet access.
8. Lastly, respect the local culture. Learn about and respect the local customs and traditions
of Misool, Raja Ampat to ensure a positive and respectful cultural exchange
Greetings, I am known as Tony, or Sky.
About Me
I am a digital marketer and a student of tourism. I have journeyed across all the provinces in
Indonesia for the past ten years. I have gained knowledge of Ecotourism in Laos, Travel and
Tourism in the United States, and Sustainable Tourism Management in Australia through the highly
competitive sponsorship of The Asia Foundation, US Department of State, and Australia
Government.

Sustain.co is a small self-funded project (yes, cash from my own pocket!), born from my deep
concern for the tourism industry of Indonesia, especially in Misool, Raja Ampat. Collaborating
with the entrepreneurs in Misool has been a mighty challenge, particularly in bringing them onto
the online platforms that require a stable internet connection. Sustain.co is originally called
'Scale Up Sales Through Amazing in Copywriting,' it eventually transformed into 'Shut Up and STay
IN COnversation'... with homestay owners.

My busy schedule in Jakarta and the limited time caused by the pandemic, have only allowed me to
visit six out of the eighteen registered homestay in Misool so far. Not to mention, the
transportation between the islands can be quite expensive, making it even more challenging to
navigate. But hey, who wouldn't fall head over heels for the stunning scenery and crystal-clear
waters of Raja Ampat?

If you want to know me, or Misool in general, surely hit me up through;
