Communication Reflection

Why is effective communication considered a

fundamental skill to have in the workplace and in life?

Effective communication such as posture, eye contact, listening; is important in life as well as,
the workplace. Respect is one of the reasons. Respect can be shown through eye contact with
authoritative figures. It is a way to form connections and trust bonds with others. It is a way to
build your own self-image and how you are perceived by others.

Up next is the ability to solve conflicts. Sure all of us can solve conflicts without saying a thing,
but if a customer is arguing with your coworker, you need to calm them down in order for your
other customers to not get involved.

Third is teamwork. If you can collaborate with your classmates in school for group projects, you
can collaborate with your coworkers and colleagues for job assignments and opportunities.

Fourth is informative knowledge gained. What do we talk for? To gain knowledge, to share
experiences, to spread awareness.

Fifth is that you have a clear focus when listening to someone. You can better understand if you
are making eye contact to ensure you’re focusing on them.

Lastly, effective communication becomes more productive and efficient because at the
workplace, workers come from different journeys of life, and effective communication is a
predominant factor to get the workload down in timely manner, if expressed effectively.
