INTRODUCTION TO
THE MOVIE

Parasite tells the story of a family trying to make ends meet until their
son comes across an unexpected opportunity. With no experience
teaching English, he decides to accept a job tutoring Da-hye, a
daughter from the wealthy Park family. And thus, a mission ensues for
the entire Kim family to infiltrate the lavish household.

One by one, each family member secures a job under the guise that
they’re vaguely connected through mutual contacts. And although the
two families eventually settle into a give-and-take relationship of
servitude and riches, there is an unforeseen parasite that threatens to
destroy it all by exposing the truth.

Parasite follows the Kim family struggling to make ends meet until son
Ki-woo comes across an unexpected opportunity. With no experience
teaching English, he decides to accept a job tutoring Da-hye, a
daughter from the wealthy Park family. And thus, a mission ensues for
the entire Kim family to infiltrate.

4
ANALYSIS OF
MIN-HYUK

Min-hyuk is the friend of Ki-woo. He helped him get a job as a tutor for
Da-hye, the daughter of the Park family. The family is known to be very
strict and picky, but Min-hyuk knew that Ki-woo would not pose any
threat to his chances of connecting with Da-hye.He was also aware that
Ki-woo needed the money from tutoring so he made it clear that he
could not afford to turn down Ki-woo's request for help.
However, it turns out that Ki-woo did not tell Min-hyuk about his feelings
for Da-hye, which makes him appear as though he has ulterior motives
for helping Ki-woo get the job in the first place.

Ultimately, he ends up ruining any chance at tutoring Da-hye again

because he is too distracted by his feelings for her and doesn't want to
hurt her by turning down her request again.
5
ANALYSIS OF
YEON-GYO

Yeon-gyo is a good mother and wife, but she's also incredibly gullible.
She completely falls for Ki-woo's masquerade as an English tutor to Da-
hye, and hires every member of the Kim family without doing very much
due diligence. She is easily deceived by Ki-jeong's framing of the Park
family chauffeur as explained by Dong-ik.

She is also too easily swayed by Ki-taek's fakery of Moon-gwang's

supposed tuberculosis diagnosis. You would think that before hiring
someone else, you stop to think if maybe your household staff is
disappearing faster than usual?

6
ANALYSIS OF
DONG-IK

In my opinion, Dong-ik is the character that has to be considered as the

most tragic character in "Dong-ik". He falls for the deceptions of Ki-jeong
and Kim family. Dong-ik was not a bad guy, but he wasn't a great one
either. He's pretty checked out as to what's going on in his home until
it's ready to smack him in the face.

We can't blame him too much for developing such trust in Ki-taek that
he doesn't see his impending death coming right for him. But that he
doesn't press Yeon-gyo for replacing Moon-gwang, who has been with
the family for quite some time is really when his fate is sealed.

7
ANALYSIS OF
GUEN-SAE

He's not a genius, but Guen-sae manages to get the jump on Ki-woo
after he fails to murder Guen-sae with the rock given by Min. But rather
than simply getting out of the Park house and trying to make it in the
outside world, he goes on a rampage at the party for Da-song.

Perhaps he had just gone crazy, but choosing to go after more of the
Kim family guaranteed that he would either be killed himself or that he'd
land behind bars. Managing to never get caught up to that point, though,
was definitely a feat on its own merits, even if it was in a basement.

8
ANALYSIS OF
GUEN-SAE

Da-song Park is the youngest member of the Park family, but he's not
exactly the dumbest. He almost outsmarts the Kim family when he
realizes that both Ki-taek and Chung-sook smell the same. But Da-song
is perhaps the only Park family member who actually has a chance to
outwit them—and his parents don't take him seriously when he does.

We may never know what could have been if Da-song hadn't been so
young and naive—but he was their only hope, at least until their scheme
collapsed around them.

9
ANALYSIS OF
KI-WOO

Ki-woo is a character who really gets the Kim family through the Park
family's door. It's his success in passing as a competent English tutor
that allows him to invite Ki-jeong into the home and so on. He also does
a great job in coaching his father's performance for Yeon-gyo so that
she will get rid of Moon-gwang, though we never see that part of his plan
carried out.

Ki-woo makes some rather poor choices, too, though. Trying to make
long term plans for him to eventually marry Da-hye are laughed off by
his family. More importantly, his failure to dispose of Geun-sae with the
rock eventually proves to be not only his undoing but both the Park and
Kim families alike.

10
ANALYSIS OF
MOON-GWANG

Moon-gwang is pretty remarkable in that she has not only managed to

ward off people from taking her job up until the Kim family, but she has
also managed to keep her husband hidden in the Park family basement
for a long time. Moon-gwang may first appear as an easy person to take
advantage of, but when she returns to the Park family's home to care
for her sick husband, we see that she didn't get to where she is by
chance. If not for the homicidal tendencies of the Kim family, she may
well have lasted longer.

Moon-gwang is not just smart—she's also pretty resourceful. She took

advantage of her time with the Kim family by learning their style and
using it against them to come out on top. This shows that even though
Moon-gwang is smart and resourceful, there are limits to what she can
do without some help from others.
11
ANALYSIS OF
CHUNG-SOOK

Chung-sook is the Kim family matriarch. She's a good wife and mother
who knows how to run a tight household, but she also understands that
even the most well-run home can fall apart without proper maintenance.

When her husband, Park-mun, dies unexpectedly, she calls on her family
members to help her get things back in order. Her daughters—Hwa-
seong, Jeong-hee and Gook-soon—have all been married off by this
point and are out of the picture; and her son-in-law, Moon-gwang, has
been living abroad for eight years. But she's determined not to let this
opportunity slip away.

She does an excellent job putting the house back together before the
Park family returns from abroad—even getting rid of Moon-gwang's
husband because she thinks he's trying to steal his wife away from him.
But she never expects what happens when Jeong-hee comes home from
school with a new boyfriend: Moon-gwang's husband immediately takes
advantage of their relationship and begins pressuring her into marriage
again
12
ANALYSIS OF
KI-TAEK

Ki-taek may be out of work, but he's no dummy. He has the hardest part
to play in getting rid of Moon-gwang. Not only does he have to create
suspicion about her, but he has to then convince Yeon-gyo to dispose
of Moon-gwang without actually advocating for it. Yes, he receives help
from Ki-jeong and Ki-woo with the peaches, but he is the one who must
do the talking afterward.

His decision to kill Mr. Park at the end is a shocking and perhaps poor
one, but not entirely unjustified (though Yeon-gyo's reaction seems
somewhat cruel). That he also manages to go into hiding in the Park's
basement as did Geun-sae is pretty impressive given all the people that
had to be going in and out of that house throughout their stay there.

13
ANALYSIS OF
KI-JEONG

Ki-jeong is a character full of layers. At first glance, she's a reliable go-

between in the Kim family's plot to take over the Park family home: she's
always one step ahead of Ki-woo and really solidifies getting the Kim
family into the Park family home. Yes, it wouldn't have taken as much
skill as she demonstrated to convince Yeon-gyo to be Da-song's new
art therapist, but she plays the part so well that it positions her charge
an exorbitant sum of money.

And by the time she's left the Park family home, she is already making
her next play by taking off her underwear and hiding them discreetly...
but not so discreet that they can't be found by Dong-ik. She is seamless
in her execution and rarely makes a misstep.
