NUTRITION (RLE Task)

Make your own analysis based on the given scenario. Answer the following case questions concisely
(INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY).

CASE SCENARIO:

1. Mrs. Edna Perez 30 years old delivered her second child, a healthy 7.5 lb (3.5 kg) baby boy under
normal spontaneous delivery in the provincial secondary hospital. She and her husband were very
happy. Her baby boy undergoes newborn screening. When the baby was already roomed in and
she is about to breastfeed the baby, she noticed that although the baby sucked in her nipple, the
baby cannot get milk and cries. Mr. Perez went to the nurse’s station and asked the nurse “Nurse

A. If you are Nurse Nica, what will you do?

I will initially make a report to the attending doctor for permission to give the newborn infant formula
milk because there is insufficient breastmilk to feed the baby. In addition, I will conduct my independent
interventions just by consulting the client about the circumstance and suggesting appropriate
interventions to Mrs. Perez such as appropriate breastfeeding position, attempting the other side of her
breast, and advising her diet program, which might actually impact her baby's breastmilk source.

B. How will you convince Mrs. Perez to do breast feeding?

I will persuade Mrs. Perez to breastfeed by explaining its benefits, such as providing the infant with natural
vitamin supplements that the baby requires for good development. Next, it helps to avoid diarrhea in
babies by lowering the chance of contaminated formula. Breastmilk also helps the immune system that
aid in illness prevention. Furthermore, it reduces the likelihood of acquiring chronic illnesses such heart
diseases and allergies. Moreover, it has cognitive and motor benefits for the baby's growth.

C. How will you guide Mrs. Perez in proper breast feeding?

Mrs. Perez will be guided in correct breast feeding by first teaching her to the right lactation positions so
that both the baby as well as the mother are comfortable. Next, she should be guided in guaranteeing
that the baby's nutritious demands are satisfied, that the baby and her is being fed regularly.
D. What health teaching regarding breast feeding can you share?

The health teaching that I can share is perhaps the milk in Breastfeeding is the best milk for the baby.
Breastmilk contains more nutrients than any other first food your baby can consume. Breastmilk, unlike
formula, is gentle on your child's skin. It has precisely the correct quantity of nutrients for newborns,
making it excellent for brain development and nervous system development, particularly in preterm
babies. Breastmilk contains nutrients such as fat, protein, salt, calcium, and iron.

2. In the mother’s class of Ms. Villacrusis and her students in the basketball court near thehealth
center majority of the mothers are from the nearby barangay. Rooming in, Breast feeding and
nutrition were discussed. Raquel, one of the mother asked “8 months na po si baby ko meron din
po akong 3 na anak sa elementary, nag breast feeding din po ako at kumakain din po sila ng kanin,
gulay at prutas. Paano po nmin masisiguro na makukuha namin ang tamang nutrition para sa
aming baby at mga anak? Mrs Ana also asked “ Ano po ang mga programa ng gobyerno para
magkaroon kami ng magandang kalusugan?”

A. If you are the nursing student, how will you answer number 1 question of Mrs. Raquel

To respond to Mrs. Raquel's query, she should guarantee that nutritional demands are addressed.
Complementary foods must be included; the first step must be timely. When the energy and nutrients
given by exclusive and frequent breastfeeding are insufficient, complementary meals are introduced. It
must also be adequate. They should provide enough calories, protein, and macronutrients to suit the
nutritional needs of a developing youngster. Finally, it must be well nourished. Food is delivered in
accordance with a kid's signals of hunger and satiety, as well as meal frequency and feeding mode—
actively encouraging the child, even during illness, to swallow adequate food through finger, spoon, or
self-feeding.

B. If you are the nursing student, how will you answer number 2 question of Mrs. Ana

I will explain to Mrs. Ana the several Philippine Republic acts that protect Filipinos' health, such as the RA
8172 or the ASIN (ACT FOR SALT IODIZATION NATIONWIDE), which mandates the iodization of food-grade
salt for human and animal use. It also required the use of iodized salt in food processing and food
establishments; the RA 8976, or the Philippine Food Fortification Act, which provides for the addition of
nutrients to processed foods or food products in accordance with the Recommended Dietary Allowances
(RDA) in order to prevent and limit nutritional deficiency problems in the Philippines; and the AO 36,
S2010, or the Expanded Garantisadong Pambata, which focuses more on health.

Questions:

A. In the description of the 3 children, what are the vitamins and minerals they are lacking?

CHILD #1 Nilo lacks Iron, folate, and Vitamin B12.

CHILD #2 Gina lacks Vitamin C, Iron, and Vitamin B12.

CHILD #3 Raul lacks Iodine, Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B12.

B. Give your health teaching based on the presented sign and symptoms of the 3 children.

For child 1, I would first explain Nilo the necessity of fruits and veggies in our bodies, as well as the three
food types (go, grow, glow) and respective significance and distinctions, in order for him to regularly eat
nutritious meals instead than chips. Furthermore, I will educate him that his condition is triggered by an
iron deficiency, and that he should take iron supplementation or consume foods high in iron, including
such meat, cereals, bread and vegetables.

For Child 2, Because Gina is fat, I will first educate her the necessity of a healthy food plan. That it would
ultimately produce issues in her bodily systems, therefore nutritious meals are essential for her body to
be healthier, particularly at her time. Next, I'll teach her about oral hygiene and the necessity of cleaning
her teeth since it helps to reduce or avoid germs that might hurt our gums and tongue. Finally, she should
be taught the necessity of vitamins, particularly vitamin C, because of her gum bleeding disease.
For child 3, I will first educate Raul the necessity of oral hygiene because he has numerous dental caries.
Furthermore, I will inform him of the necessity of eating nutritious meals, as he frequently consumes
chips, which causes him to lose attention in class. Fruits and vegetables would be extremely beneficial to
him, first for his growth, and then for his ability to focus better in class if he had a proper diet or food
consumption. Next, explain him the necessity of taking vitamins, particularly vitamin B1 or biotin, as these
are the vitamins, he needs owing to his condition. is health. Finally, educate him the value of napping so
that he may acquire energy from it and therefore have a longer period of attention.
