Unit 4 :

1. Talk about a voluntary activity that you have ever taken

part in :
Every year, after the Lunar New Year holiday, my school will launch
many charity activities, including a movement to help poor children in
the highlands. We can support in kind or a small amount (extracted from
the amount of our birthday celebration). The time to receive donations
took place within a week. A lot of clothes and school supplies were
brought. The team leaders will have a book to record the list of items,
quantity or amount of each of you. Previously, items were required to be
neatly arranged in bags, so checking and sorting was easy. For myself, I
have deducted an amount from the lucky money to buy school supplies
such as pens, notebooks or school bags. The next morning, I bring it to
the team leader. After that, all will be submitted to the school to be
transferred to the highlands for the students. I hope that these gifts will
help some students with difficult circumstances. All members of the class
are very happy to have done a meaningful job.

2. How can teenagers benefit from taking part in volunteering

activities ?
Audrey Hepburn once said, “ As you grow older you will
discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and
one for helping others.”No matter how much generosity you
think exists in the world, it’s safe to say there is always room
for a little more. Volunteering is often thought of as a selfless
act — one where you give up your time for a worthy cause
without being paid. While this may be true, what is often less
obvious are the many benefits people experience when they
volunteer. So I will tell you some advantages of
involvingvolunteering activities :
First, it can widen their social circle. A person’s social
circle typically consists of family and their colleges.
Volunteering gives youth the opportunity to meet people
outside of their usual circle, some of whom may have a
positive impact on their future. Volunteering provides the
perfect opportunity to meet like-minded people and form
relationships that last a lifetime. Young people will also learn
to relate to people from a wide variety of backgrounds and
generations, and may even help them find a mentor who can
teach them what they won’t learn within the confines of a
classroom. These individuals may also be good candidates for
letters of recommendation when it comes time to apply to
colleges or jobs.
Second, you can gain work experience from yourself
and even from others. Volunteer work can impress a future
employer. It indicates that the individual has empathy for
others, has gained some real-life experience outside of school
and is prepared to step outside of their comfort zone to achieve
goals. They may also learn specific skills while volunteering
that look good on a resume.

Eventually, doing this work will help you become more

empathetic and increase your self-esteem. Acts of philanthropy can lead to a
greater feeling of self-worth because helping others is fun and can help a teen
reflect on what they have and enhance their sense of purpose. Volunteering helps
teens see that not everyone’s life is like theirs. Helping people who have different
life circumstances can help teens become more empathetic to everyone in their
lives. People will live in serenity, lightness, peace, relaxation in their soul.

In conclusion, If you are a teen who is looking for

something worthwhile to do, consider volunteering in your community. Talk to
your guidance counselor, an employee at your local house of worship, or someone
who works at an organization you are interested in to find out what opportunities
are available in your area.
