A CHARACTER
BUILDING
CRAFTVITIY ON
KINDNESS
created by
Michelle
Hudgeons
This craftivity is a great follow up activity to the book, The Jelly Donut Difference by Maria
Dismondy. This craftivity can be completed without the read aloud. However, I do suggest
using it.

Prior to completing the craftivity, encourage your students to think of ways

that they can show kindness to their friends at school. Create an anchor
chart with your students responses.

Another option is to draw a large donut on an anchor chart. Have your

students record on small rectangular sticky notes the different ways that
they can show kindness to their friends at school. After they record their
acts of kindness, they can stick the sticky notes to the donut to create
sprinkles. They can reference to this throughout the school year as a
reminder on ways to show kindness.

After completing the anchor chart, your students will record ways to show
Suggested
kindness on their sprinkles (see template) and create their donut. They will
then choose from one of their sprinkles (acts of kindness) and elaborate by Read Aloud:
telling an example of how they can show kindness through that act (see The Jelly Donut
example picture). Difference by
Maria Dismondy
Oh,...and you may even want to bring in some delicious donuts to enjoy
during or after writing! YUM!!
