Bio 1421L Weekly Activities WEEK ONE (Aug 25)

Pre-Lab Assignment (see requirements for Excercises 1 and 2 below). You must complete these prior to lab
and will serve as a quiz grade.

*You will NOT be allowed into lab until these items have been completed and will not receive a quiz grade if
not completed prior to lab.

Exercise 1 (Language of Anatomy)

Know and understand the terms included within Exercise 1 by completing questions 1-13 of Review Sheet
Exercise 1 from your lab manual. Print it off and turn it in when you come to class on Aug 25.

*We will NOT be performing any of these activities during lab.

Exercise 2 (Organ Systems Overview)

Complete questions 2-7 of Review Sheet Exercise 2 from your lab manual. Print if off and turn it in when
you come to class on Aug 25. )

*We will be using torso models to answer question #1 from the review sheet during lab. We will NOT be
dissecting the rat.

Exercise 3 (The Microscope)

View the pre-lab video: Compound Microscope (in your lab manual exercise) as a pre-lab assignment.

*During lab, you will be given the summary chart from the lab manual to complete. We will OMIT the
following rows: working distance and field diameter; OMIT the following column: oil immersion. Turn in
your completed chart BEFORE LEAVING LAB for a quiz grade.

View the pre-lab video for Activity 5: Preparing and Observing a Wet Mount (in your lab manual exercise)
as a pre-lab assignment.

*During lab, we will view prepared slides. You will draw two (2) cells on a clean piece of paper to turn in
before you leave lab for another quiz grade. Be sure to include your total viewing magnification for each
drawing!

*Clean your area thoroughly and dispose of materials properly – points may be deducted from your grade for
incomplete cleanup/disposal. If unsure, ask! 😊

*Turning in Materials: When due, turn in everything required within the activity sheet; staple all items
together in the order indicated by the activity sheet. Points will be deducted for failure to follow this format
as well as for errors.
