Part B. 24 points. Using a minimum of 6 sentences and a maximum of 8 sentences, describe the composer’s affect for each of the
6:08 – 7:11, 7:11 – 8:16, and 8:57 – 9:36 sections, and the composer’s intent for each affect as interpreted within the original context
of Finlandia, Op 26’s composition and performance. For each affect, identify and describe in what specific way(s) the choice of
instrument family(families) supports that affect. Your answer should include information presented in the Romantic Period and
Ensemble Type & Musical Instruments Powerpoint and from the musical analysis above.

At the beginning of this piece on (6:08 – 7:11), the composer uses the woodwinds to create an atmosphere of calm and relaxing
without not even saying a word. The tempo of this piece is slow with the woodwinds playing also connecting the Flutes, Oboes,
Clarinets, Bassoons, French Horns as one sound. In the middle of this piece (7:11 – 8:16) the composer transition into the string
making it very fluent with the tempo stay the same. The composer uses Violin I, Violin II, Violas, Cellos, Double Basses to not only
transition into another section but making the piece still clam. Finally, in the last part (8:57 – 9:36) uses Percussion and Brass another
transition in the piece without messing up the tempo. But listening to it shows me that something or someone is going into a fast and
showing the ending to the piece.

family with a specific instrument features in the foreground. Using a minimum of 6 sentences and a maximum of eight

the synopsis of the opera, describe the affect of Idea A and Idea and how Wagner’s choice of instrument family
combinations and foreground instruments supports the affect for Idea A and Idea B.

The instruments that play at the beginning of (0:00-0:19) the brass trumpets use the effect on melody to bring a soft tone. On (0:19-
