B. Details of Seminar

The first speaker of the seminar is Ar. /Landscape Achitect Joshua Cunan,

RMP, MTLA, one of the faculty members from De La Salle, College of Saint Benilde

and part-time academe in the University of Sto.Tomas. His specialization is in public

parks and open spaces. He presented his Case Study in Metro Manila: Praxis Changes

and Use of Urban Open Spaces as Influenced by Covid-19 Pandemic. First, He

discussed the situation during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, how everything

affected the health economy, and the adjustment of people during the pandemic

resulting in complications in LGU, it provided new changes in protocols in order to not

spread the virus; lockdowns, and quarantine protocols and particularly to mobility, open

He emphasizes the existing condition of our open spaces, and public parks and

how it is important nowadays, the aim of his study is to focus on the COVID-19 impacts

on the design aspect of open space in the Philippine setting. Architect Cunan explain

about redesigning the public open spaces and the design guideline, provision, and

recommendation that is suitable for open spaces in Metro Manila can be adapted.

C. Comments
As an architect and taking a Master of Urban Planning and Design, I like the topic

of Architect Cunan, how he delivers the importance of open spaces during and post
covid 19 and what open will provide to the people. I think the idea of redesigning open

spaces and providing open spaces in our municipalities is very practical nowadays

because it will provide opportunities for relaxation, recreation, and socializing, and

contribute to a neighborhood's local character and sense of place.
