Lazarim • Celtic ritual of wearing large wooden masks.

Careto • one of the oldest traditions still observed in Portugal. This is a pre-
Roman, Celtic ritual that only a few villages still take part in. Carved handmade
masks are real works of art.
There is a small museum in the village, where artful creations can be seen and
appreciated all year round. People in costumes take advantage of their anonymity
and can play pranks on other locals and indulge in self-indulgence without fear of
public condemnation and reprisals.
