Required Space:
Before setting up the autoclave you should make sure that the following requirements are met:
The DAC Professional is not designed to be installed in a cupboard or enclosed space. In order to
ensure adequate ventilation, there should be at least 10 cm clearance to the sides (for dimensions
see Figure1), and 10 cm clearance at the rear for connections.
Above the autoclave there must be sufficient space to allow access to the built-in water storage tank
(1) and for a good circulation of air.
The DAC Professional operates with a blower (8) on the rear of the unit, as part of the cooling
system.
The functioning and the service life of the unit can be impaired if the blower (8) is not allowed to
freely remove the heat from the unit.
Important: Before installing the unit, make sure that there is sufficient free circulation of air
around the unit.
A plane, horizontal surface is required which is sufficiently stable to support the autoclave
(unloaded weight 43 kg).
Make sure that the inside of the chamber is in level and then turn the front feet 3 times down (see
figure 2).

Figure 2

The inside of the chamber

should be in level and then

Power supply
The power supply should be 230 V, 50 - 60 Hz, and 2500 W, with ground protection and a 16 A
fuse.
The power cable supplied is 1.35 m long.
If the NITRAprint® is used, then an additional power socket will be required.

One-way-outlet
The wastewater outlet should be at least 30 cm lower than the autoclave and the connection pipe
should not sag or be twisted, so that all water can drain away.

The supply with feed water (distilled or demineralised)

If an autoclave has a closed-loop water system, impurities in the water regularly lead to damage.
Therefore, the DAC Professional has a one-way system.
The autoclave automatically withdraws the feed water it needs, from the internal water storage tank
(1) which has to be refilled with purified water.
The quality of the feed water (for steam generation) must be below 15µS to comply with EN13060.

Destilled or demineralised water below 15µS.

Waste-water tank

The DAC Professional is directly supplied with demineralised / distilled water through a hose from
the built-in water storage tank (right side of the tank (front side)). The advantage of this system is
that only electric power is required, and no water from the mains. A sensor measures the water level
in the water storage tank. If the water level is too low, the system will warn the user that the tank
must be filled before the program can start. The drain water (used feed water) is collected in the
waste-water tank (left side of tank (front side)) and must be manually drained. When the waste-
water tank becomes full, the system will warn the user that the tank must be drained before a
program can start. This is the standard condition of the equipment as delivered. See figure 4.
Clean and empty the wasted water tank and the clean water tank every 2nd week (see operating
manual)

One-way-outlet
Wastewater outflow is possible via a wall-mounted trap or a double-chamber trap under a sink.
Example is shown on figure 5. A 1 meter outlet connection pipe can be supplied on request.
The wastewater outlet should be at least 30 cm lower than the autoclave and the connection pipe
should not sag or be twisted, so that all water can drain away.

Fault 1: Vacuum system

Tripping conditions:

Fault conditions may occur if the monitoring time Uet1 was exceeded for achievement of the following:

• The required evacuation pressures for the individual sub-atmospheric pulses

– P37, P38, P40, P41 for cold starts
– P1, P2, P21, P22 for hot starts
• The required evacuation pressure (P17) for the vacuum test
• The required evacuation pressure (P12) for evacuation / pressure relief
• The required minimum pressure for drying (P3).

Causes of the problem / Correction of the problem

Action / checking by operating staff:

• Check for defects and for soiling of the door seal and the sealing surfaces of the sterilization chamber,
and on the round plate around the door of the sterilization chamber. Repair and clean if necessary.
• Check to make sure that the autoclave is properly set up (it must be installed with a tilt (at slope), as
described in the operating instructions).
• Check to make sure that the condensate drain at the bottom of the sterilization chamber is not stopped.
It can be stopped if instruments, filter paper, etc. fall onto the bottom of the chamber.
• Check for the following:
– If you are using the internal system for supply of demineralised water, check to make sure that the
pressure-release pipe is not stopped.
– If you are using an external waste-water connection that empties into the building waste-water
system, check to make sure that this drain pipe does not have a kink (make sure the water can
flow freely out).

Æ Fault class: the vacuum performance of the pump system is too weak

► The vacuum solenoid valves 1 + 2 do not open (VV1, VV2)

• The solenoid valve, or coil, or rectifier plugs are defective.
• The activation for the solenoid valve (output 6) is defective.

Switch on output 6 in the Diagnosis program.

Check the electric control system and the switching behavior of the solenoid valve.

► The flow resistance in the intake line is too high

• Filter in the intake fitting on the sterilization
chamber is clogged up

► The pressure-sensor signal is defective, or the

processing of this signal is not correct
• The level of the pressure-sensor signal, or the signal processing,
is too high. See the section “Sensor Fault Group”.

► The suction of the vacuum pump is too weak

Check the vacuum performance of the membrane as follows:
1. Check to see if there are leaks.
2. Make sure that the chamber to be evacuated is empty and dry.
3. If there are no leaks, and if the chamber is empty and dry,
check the performance of the pump. It must be at least
800 mbar in 80 s, or 900 mbar in 180 s.
4. If there are no leaks, and if the chamber is empty and dry, and if the performance of the pump does not meet
the above level (800 mbar in 80 s, or 900 mbar in 180 s), then exchange the pump.

Fault 1: Vacuum system

Fault class: leakages

Leaks in the solenoid valves

► The solenoid valve for the venting (VB) will not close, or it leaks
• Check the coil, the rectifier plug, and the control at output 8
• Solenoid valve dirty. Check the plunger / is the seating tight?
Test under sub-atmospheric conditions (Vacuum Test program)
Remove the sterile filter. Cover the opening of the sterile-filter fitting
with the palm of your hand. Then observe the pressure reading.

► The solenoid valve for pressure release 1 + 2 (VDA1, VDA2) has a leak
• Solenoid valve dirty. Check the plunger / is the seating tight?
Test under sub-atmospheric conditions (Vacuum Test program)
Observe the water column in the hose between the solenoid valve “Pressure release” and the sterile filter.
If there is a leak, water will be pulled in the direction of the solenoid valve.
Loosen the hose on the T-fitting for the cooling-water drain, close with finger, observe the pressure reading.

► The solenoid valve for the vacuum 1 + 2 (VV1 + VV2) has a leak (Vacuum Test program)
• Solenoid valve dirty. Check the plunger / is the seating tight?
Test under sub-atmospheric conditions (Vacuum Test program):
Observe the water column in the hose between the intake fitting for the chamber and the solenoid valve for the
vacuum. If there is a leak, water will be pulled in the direction of the solenoid valve.

► The solenoid valve for the feed pump (VQ) has a leak
• Solenoid valve dirty. Check the plunger / is the seating tight?
Test under sub-atmospheric conditions (Vacuum Test program):
Observe the water column in the intake hose leading to the input
of feed water between the conductivity-sensor and the intake fittings
of the pump, and on the pressure side of the pump. If there is a leak,
water will be pulled in the direction of the solenoid valve.

Leaks at the threaded connections and adhesive bonding

Test under sub-atmospheric conditions: start the “Leak search” procedure in the Diagnosis Program (0.3 bar, for
8 min). Or, feed compressed air into the autoclave through the vent-filter fittings (in Diagnosis program, close
output 8, “MV vent”). Brush a soapy solution on the points shown below and check to see if there are any air
bubbles.

Fault diagnosis for DAC Professional
Fault 14: No feed water

Fault 14: No feed water (or Warning message: No feed water)

Trigger for the error:

In addition to the monitoring action by the flow sensor 41-00 during a cycle (internal error 14) the float switch in the
internal feed water tank 04-01 can trigger the error message before starting the program (Warning message: No
feed water). This is only possible with models with internal feed-water supply from an internal water tank.

The cause, the occurrence, and the time in point of the error message will vary, and will depend on the following
factors:

Models without an internal tank or models with an internal tank but with an external supply of feed water:

This possibility of feed-water supply is found in Vacuklav®24-B and Vacuklav®30-B. It is optional for the
Vacuklav®23-B and Vacuklav®31-B, and for all Euroklav®- models if they take the feed water not from the internal
water storage tank 04-00 (e.g. a MELAdem® water treatment device is installed).

The flow sensor 41-00 for the supply of distilled or demineralized water at digital input DIN 4 on the main board has
not switched (i.e., has not closed) after the waiting period z22 has run out for water feed before conductivity
measurement. Or, this sensor has not switched (i.e., has not closed) after waiting period z16 has run out for water
feed during the program run.

In both cases, the malfunction 14 will appear not before a few seconds after the program starts, or during the
program run. In the display, the two following warnings will alternate: “Warning! Water supply” or “Malfunction 14:
No feed water”, and “ aqua dest. / dem. check supply ”.

Models with internal tank and internal feed of water

This possibility of feed-water supply is pre-set as default at the factory for the models Vacuklav®23-B and
Vacuklav®31-B, and for all Euroklav® models.

The float switch for demineralized water (04-01) on the feed-water side of the internal water storage tank (04-00)
has reported that there is a shortage of water (i.e., the switch is open).

In this case, the error message will occur directly when the power supply on the unit is switched on, or directly at
the start of a program, or at the end of this program – but never during the run of the program itself. The display
will alternate between “Warning! Water supply” and “aqua dest./dem. refill! ”.

Or:

The flow sensor 41-00 for the supply of distilled or demineralized water at digital input DIN 4 has not switched (i.e.,
has not closed) after the waiting period z22 has run out for water feed before conductivity measurement. Or, this
sensor has not switched (i.e., has not closed) after waiting period z16 has run out for water feed during the
program run.

In this case, the error message will appear a few seconds after the start of the program and after the observation
time, or during the program run. In the display, the two following warnings will alternate: “Warning! Water supply”
and “aqua dest. / dem. check supply”.

Models without an internal tank, or models with an internal tank but with an external supply of feed water:

⇒ For supply of feed water to the autoclave from a water-treatment system (for example, MELAdem®37,
MELAdem®47):
• Make sure that there are no kinks (twists or curls) in the water-supply hose.
• Check the function of the system: pre-compression in the storage tank of MELAdem®47, the water supply
rate, the filter.

⇒ For supply of feed water to the autoclave by suction from a water-storage tank:
• Check the filling level of the external water-storage tank.
• Check the position of the suction filter on the bottom of the water storage tank.
• Make sure that there are no kinks (twists or curls) in the water-supply hose.
• Check to make sure that the suction level is not too low. The maximum suction level for intake from the
water tank is 1.5 m.
Models with internal tank and internal feed of water

⇒ Make sure that there is enough distilled or demineralized water in the right half of the internal tank (04-00).
Also see the Operating Manual.

⇒ Check to make sure that the float of the float switch for demineralized water (04-01) in the right half of the
internal tank (04-00) can move freely without obstruction (Please check by hand).

Clarification with the help of the print-out record

If at the time of the malfunction the temperature and pressure values of the print-out correspond to values
for saturated steam, then it can be assumed that the temperature measurement at AIN2 is accurate. The
cause of the malfunction is therefore probably a faulty temperature measurement at Analog input AIN 1:
• Temperature sensor "Temp_chambr_elec“ at AIN1 faulty
• Fault in signal processing at AIN1 (AD-converter on CPU board).

Exchange temperature sensors on AIN1 and AIN2 and restart the program,
If the temperature and pressure values on the print-out at the time of the malfunction correspond
to the values for saturated steam then it can be assumed that the temperature sensor from AIN 1
(now in Analog input AIN2) is measuring properly, so that the malfunction is due to the faulty
signal processing on the AIN 1: exchange CPU-board.
If there is a deviation from the values for saturated steam, then the fault lies in the temperature
sensor originally in AIN1 (now in AIN2): exchange this sensor.

However, if the print-out shows a deviation from the values of pressure and temperature for saturated
steam, then the fault lies with the temperature measurements from the analog input AIN2:
• Temperature sensor " Temp_chambr_elec“ at AIN2 faulty
• Faulty signal processing at AIN2 (AD-converter on the CPU-board)

Exchange temperature sensor on AIN2 with AIN1 and start the program,
If the temperature and pressure values now correspond to the values for saturated steam, then
the temperature sensor originally at AIN2 (now in AIN 1) is faulty: exchange the relevant sensor
If there is still a deviation of temperature and pressure values in the print-out from the values for
saturated steam, then it can be assumed that sensor originally at AIN 2 (now in Analog Input AIN
1) did not give an incorrect temperature measurement, so that the fault lies in the incorrect signal
processing at AIN 2: Exchange CPU-board.

FAULT 29: Battery RAM

Triggered by:
In the data memory of the CPU there is a data inconsistency or a loss of data, This can be due to an electrical
disturbance (e.g. very high power supply disturbances), a low battery voltage or a hardware defect in the RAM. On
quitting the fault the clock time is automatically set at 00:00 and the load counter is reset to the value from the
EEPROM. At the same time all record data in the memory is deleted.

Causes / Remedy

Operating fault / Checks by personnel:

• After quitting the malfunction report: Enter correct time and date settings and restart a program.

Helix test

If you wish to carry out a control of the DAC Professional you can use a sterilization indicator and
batch monitoring system consisting of a test receptacle (the spiral unit) and an indicator strip. We
recommend Helix Test set mat. No 58 92 042 which is designed only for testing Class B autoclaves:
i.e. autoclaves that work with fractionated (pulsed) vacuum processes.

1. Unscrew the cap from the unit. 2. Take the indicator strip out of the 3. Insert the folded indicator strip into
package and fold it with the indicator the closure cap, entering the bended
surface on the inside. end first.

4. Make sure that the indicator strip is 5. Screw the closure cap back into Evaluation:
pushed as far as possible into the cap. place as far into the spiral unit as A: Only if the colour of the indicator
possible. strip changes completely the steam
penetration is satisfactory.

B: If the indicator still shows some

yellow colour, the steam penetration
has NOT been satisfactory.

Place the spiral unit with its inserted indicator strip into the autoclave with the items to be sterilized,
and start the respective B program.
If you wish to employ the spiral unit to check a Class B vacuum sterilizer, first run one sterilization
cycle with the autoclave without any items inside. Then insert a new indicator strip into the spiral
unit as described above, and place the spiral on a tray into the empty sterilization chamber. Then
run the Bowie & Dick test cycle while the autoclave is empty.
When the cycle is finished, remove the spiral unit from the autoclave, and unscrew the cap of the
unit. Now check the indicator strip. If it shows a complete colour change, you can assume that the
autoclave is functioning effectively and that it successfully sterilizes.

According to EN13060 this is a PCD Process Challenge Device.

Bowie & Dick test

1. Place the complete package in the autoclave.

The unused indicator shows the colour red.

2. open the package.

3. If the indicator has only been changed partly the

penetration is not satisfactory.

4. Only if the colour of the indicator is uniform the

penetration is satisfactory.

According to EN13060 this is a PCD Process Challenge Device.
